One would think both Stamkos and Kopitar would have signed extensions by now! In this day and age young stud stars never reach ufa. This tells me two things:

1) they are asking a bit too much in salary or

2) they have no intention of signing an extension. they just want to reach ufa and let there be a bidding war.

If I were the Leafs I would just wait it out and see if either players agent calls you July 1st I know the Leafs are in rebuild but Stamkos is only 25 he is young enough to be part of the rebuild Stamkos 7 y x 10.5M, Kopitar 7 y x 9M.

Waiting out July 1st for Stamkos is EXACTLY what the Leafs are doing.

They're using fear as leverage for higher salaries, and possible cap increases.
