Anaheim should be sellers. You want Getzlaf and Gibson, you are probably starting with Nylander and a 1st, so that seems dead on. Getzlaf salary is only $3M this season, so I think the most retained can be 1.5M, but could be wrong. I doubt they want Freddie as they will be hoping to lose games, not win them. They also won't want to mve a high end prospect. Gibson will command a small ransom on his own. Getzlaf will carry good value at the TDL to a contending team.
You might be looking at Nylander, 2021 1st, Campbell, Kerfoot for Getzlaf (1.5 retained) and Gibson. This way Anaheim can keep Campbell and expose Stolarz. They will have two cost controlled top 9 players moving forward and another 1st for this draft. A late 1st, but a 1st nonetheless with value closer to a 2nd.
I am still not sure I created enough cap space on our side though and the Leafs would have to be all in to make this move.

Retaining works as a % not number

So retain 50% cap and salary
4 mill cap 1.5 salary

Whatever % u retain is for both regardless of the numbers that go with either

I use to think it went by sane number on both but was wrong it’s same % of both.

Thanks Craigger. Oddly, that is what I used to think and then I read on here (I believe it was here) that it is based on max 50% of salary only for the number. If it is $4M cap hit Anaheim retains, but only 1.5 salary, I think my suggestion works better.
