Thinking about the expansion, I think the Leafs should protect 4 and 4 not 7 and 3

The Leafs actually don't have 7 forwards that require protection, but they could potentially lose Kerfoot in this scenario.
However, I actually think Seattle would take Dermott.

To VAN: F - I. Mikheyev + F - P. Engvall + 2021 1st + 2021 6th

To TOR: F - T. Pearson + F - J. Virtanen + 2022 4th

That trade has been floated a bunch. I don't actually think it makes the team a whole lot better nor do I think Vancouver agrees. They have no reason to.

So essentially we give up two cost effective 3rd liners and a 1st for a mid-six rental who has 9 points and a young player with issues who has one point in 21 games. If someone else threw this out, you would be telling them about how little points they have and aren't worth what is being offered, especially a 1st.

Yes Pearson is a middle 6 forward, but I think 2nd line is a good spot for him. Last year he produced 21G 45 pts in 69 games. Yes he is a rental, but I think he's better than both Mikheyev and Engvall.
They also take on a reclamation project in Virtanen, who could turn into something or not.

Tavares has a no move clause. That he would have to waive. I believe a no trade does not need waiving.
