Especially since what we have seen from the past trades for top D-Men

To LA Kings
Rielly $5M

To Toronto
Adrian Kempe $2M
Arthur Kaliyev 20 y/o 2nd round 2019 draft 33OA ... LW
Tobias Bjornfot 20 y/o 1st round 2019 draft 22OA ... LD

LA has one of the best, if not the best prospect pool in the NHL
Kaliyev 3rd top prospect
Bjornfot 4th top propect

LA looking for a top D-Man which Rielly will most certainly fill

Toronto can try Kempe LW2 and see how he works with Tavares and Nylander, plus we replenish our prospect pool
Also, we gain $3M in cap space

The problem with LA is that they already have Doughty at $11M. I could see this if they already talked to Rielly and has a feeling what he wants and would consider re-signing in LA. But does LA want an $11M Doughty and an $8M? Rielly. That is $19M on your top pair. Not sure LA is a fit fir Morgan.

Agreed that next year the 2 would get around $19M, but their defence is so underwhelming.
Once they pick up another top 6, LA is all in.
The $8M? salary won't kick in till next year and LA will have about $35M cap space . I'm sure they can make it work. Plus, they can always trade Morgan in future.

Keep in mind to get this package the team acquiring Rielly have to know he’s willing to resign but Dubas needs to know what Reilly is thinking now and resign now or trade him if he doesn’t want to sell high there is guys out there that would be an upgrade over Rielly defensively.

@Tagz. Rielly will be looking for his big contract and he will likely be wanting NMC or at least NTC so he can determine if or when he gets traded. Whether they have 35M in cap space or not next year won't be the issue. Morgan will want 7-8 years and Doughty has 6 years left. That $19M on two d-men may be a problem in a couple of years when their now ELC players all want new contracts. (Byfield, Vilardi, Turcotte) . They are probably better off just staying the course over trading off really good prospects to be better now.
