I think I saw this on here before but forget the responses. I think Dubas should be all over something like this as we will most likely lose Reilly next year anyways.

In the past when Weegar was RFA and not signed it made sense for both teams. Why would Fla do this now? Weegar has been very good and makes a lot less than Rielly and is signed 1 season longer. Tippett is still on his ELC and had a really good rookie season and playoffs. This is huge in the Leafs favour now. Dubas had his chance and missed it already.

There is value here for both teams for sure. Florida has a stud RD but not a high quality partner. Weegar is good yes, but not as good as Rielly. Weegar only projects as a 2nd pairing Dman, so the Leafs lose the better player

Rielly will need a new deal as well, whereas Weegar is signed to a good deal for 1 more year.

Tippet was a high pick, but has not materialized and is a middle 6 winger, very replaceable.

@ T-buds. I would like to know what stats you are using that has Rielly as a first pair and Weegar as a 2nd pair dman. If Florida would do this, we would be stupid not to.

I agree with you RLF, Dubas missed his chance on Weegar.
