All this talk about tkachuk but the thing is I'd be targeting mangiapane he had 35 goals last year is a more complete two way player and is from Toronto..

Tor: nylander
Cgf: mangiapane

Maybe more to this trade but the basis of it would be around these two the contract I'd sign him to would be closer to nylanders deal

they just lost Gaudreau. If they trade Tkachuk, I can't imagine they trade Mangiapane as well.

I agree doesn’t seem likely but mangiapane has been publicly frustrated with the flame over his usage on the team the other thing would be your the flames you just lost two of your top players can they survive it and still be competitive they still have pieces but their chance of replacing tkachuk and Gaudreau via free agency is gone unless they get something substantial in a tkachuk trade this team might be forced into a rebuild which is why if I’m dubas I kick tires on mangiapane nylander is more well rounded on the offensive side and could pair well with fellow countryman lindholm.

If they trade Tkachuk, they are going to get some good pieces and will have lots of cap space. IF Nylander is available and the Leafs need cap space, why wouldn't they sign Mangiapane and go after Nylander? If Monahan stays on Ltir, they have lots of money to add to their team.

They lose Tkachuk It all but over. They aint getting superstars in return they gettting young stars and draft picks. maybe a decent impact player for the now. But in the short term this will seem like a one sided trade for the now. that leaves a goalie with 4 years reamining at 6M per at age 32 already your now top 2 fwds are making over 5M at ages 33-34 one who will be a ufa at years end other the year after that. you have 2 other fwds at 30 making over 4M. one is making 4.9 and signed until hes 37 ouch
D looks good from an age and salary pov Tanev at 4.5 for next 2 are not great but that's it. ALL these pieces are movable. TANK TANK TANK unload all these contracts load up the cupboards with number 1 picks from all over and prospects anf 2nd round picks and TANK TANK TANK and get Bedard Be a champion by 2026.

No reason to tank. The whole team isn't old and they have prospects already and some good players, defence and goaltending. Who goes scorched earth with that?
