Chuckle.
That’s a lot of draft picks.
I felt Leafs should have traded Matthews to Arizona prior to this most recent draft.
Arizona had three (3) 1st round picks and four (4) 2nd round picks.
That would have done nicely.
Our new 1st line center would have been Wright.
Could have beaten Ottawa to the punch and sent two (2) 1st round picks (out of Leafs 4) and a 2nd round pick to Chicago for DeBrincat.
Leafs future 1st line:
DeBrincat - Wright - Marner.
No, Wright will never be a Matthews but it alleviates the risk of him walking home to Arizona two summers from now.

I know that a certain amount of people think Matthews is heading to Arz as soon as he can. But no one seems to be talking about if Arz will be willing to pony up $13-$15M per season for him. I'm don't think they can afford him.

@RLF. i agree on Matthews. if he does decide to leave the Leafs he could pull a Johnny Gaudreau and go some place like the Kings or another western team that won't have the cap issues that Arizona has. he could opt for a city close to home.

I think Arizona would do whatever it takes to bring Matthews an Arizona native and new face of the franchise back to the desert.
Coyotes will have to sell a lot of seats and private boxes to pay for and fill their new Tempe, Ar. arena in a couple of years and 60 goal scorer, Hart Trophy winning, MVP hometown boy is exactly they guy to do it.

@Loxley. Could very well be what happens. I am pretty sure the Leafs will open the bank, but if he doesn't see a SC possible future here, he may bolt.
@WB. I agree with the premise and timing would make sense. Will ARZ have the funds though after basically no home gate revenue for a year or two prior? They are are rebuilding bottom feeder and if Matthews leaves here because success hasn't been had, would he really want to go to a rebuilding team that probably isn't even a playoff team? There are reasons for him to go to Arz, but I believe there are more reasons he wouldn't go, especially if he wants to win.
