So Kasperi Kapanen has been a healthy scratch recently..

To Pittsburgh: Kerfoot

To Toronto: Kapanen

Kapanen has 2 years at around 3.25M, Kerfoot is UFA. I'm curious where people stand on Kapanen. I've always liked him.

I like kappy, I'd love to have him back, but, we're solid at rw. And kerfoot tales important faceoffs on the PK.

I think he’s a L4 RW’er with Malgin ahead of him on the Leafs and he has shown he can’t play LW.

If Nylander moves to LW replacing Robertson (who needs to build lower body strength and balance since he’s always on his bum) and Malgin moves up, Kapanen might be RW L3 and Jarnkrok RW L4.

Or find a better target for Kerfoot’s $3.5m in a package with Sandin who continually hands the puck to an opposing player.

Kappy has always struggled with consistency. He can look like a top 6 forward and then the next shift/ game like he could care less and is completely unnoticeable. Not sure he is a good target at his cap hit.

Sorry, but the fact Pitt is benching him makes his value low.

To TOR: F - K. Kapanen (25% retained)

To PIT: F - P. Engvall

The 25% retention makes Kapanen a $2.4M player, but the Leafs are also on the hook next season for that too.

I have never been a fan of Kapanen.
He brings nothing to the game except speed.
His hockey IQ is stuck in the minors.
Kerfoot’s contract expires next summer while Leafs would have to absorb another year of Kapanen’s.
Kerfoot will score more points than Kapanen this year and bring a defensively responsible game.
I do not see any upside to this trade.
Can’t imagine why Leafs would do this.
