Nylander can’t play defense good enough to be our third line center. We are better off re-signing either Bozak or Plekanec.

I like your idea of packaging Brown with Gardiner. Both are very good players. Gardiner is UFA, so finding someone to take him alone may be a chore. Adding Brown as incentive is a good idea.

We are already hearing people question Zaitsev who is a step and a half better than Ozhiganov. I wonder how good the Russian is.

The team acquiring Gardiner could easily flip him at next year deadline. To the right team Gardiner would help just leafs don't have a big sound guy that can shield leafs from costly screw ups. Leafs need a very good defensive right hand shot dmam.

Why would a team offer up a better defenseman just to have Gardiner for a half season? Just to get Brown?

A sign and trade is probably a better option if Leafs want to get a good return for Gardiner. Throw in Brown to increase the return.

If we don’t re-sign Gardiner first, I wouldn’t expect him to be traded until the deadline, if at all.
