Leafs trade Dermott, 2nd
Blues trade Dunn

This is done for cap purposes obviously. The difference between Dermott and Dunn is small.

Leafs trade Hyman
Chicago trades Nylander, Gustafson

Now that Chicago has DeHaan and Maatta, I got to think Gustafsson’s days are numbered. Nylander won’t need to be protected for the expansion draft, which is why we trade Hyman for him.

Johnsson/ Matthews/ Kapanen
Kerfoot/ Tavares/ Marner
A. Nylander/ W. Nylander/ Bracco
Petan/ Spezza / Mikheyev
*Gauthier
(Moore/ Brooks/ )
(Timashov/ SDR/ Marchment)

Reilly/ Gustafsson
Muzzin/ Barrie
Dunn/ Ceci
*Holl, Marincin, Gravel, Harpur
(Sandin/ Liljegren)
(/ Hollowell)
(Borgman/ Duszak)
(/ Rasanen)

Andersen
Hutchinson
(Woll)
(Scott)

Agree0 Disagree1

The dunn dermott deal is good to me but would prefer a 4th instead of 2nd but who knows what the true value of both dmen are.

Chicago probably wants to use nylander much like strome as rheir cheap reclamation project. don't see hyman fitting into their plan unless somehow value him

It is possible that if you lise the dunn deal and use dermott in the chicago deal then the hawks might look at this deal more closely. as a leaf i'd still do it .

Maybe their is a way to get strome also

But that's a whole notha leva of this trade.

07 Aug 2019 23:10:15
Well would you look at that! Dermott isn’t making as much as I thought. Not sure what I was smoking when I came up with this proposal. Lol.

08 Aug 2019 00:57:24
@craigger

The thing about throwing Dermott/ Dunn into the Chicago deal is the it leaves us with only Rielly signed past this year.

08 Aug 2019 02:08:10
Hyman is Zaitsev top six winger and a cheap one at that. Chicago doesn’t necessarily have seven guys to protect and oils probably actually protect Hyman. Nylander might have more upside, but Hyman is obviously much better now. He instantly and significantly improves Chicago. Bowman’s job is on the line. He has to make the playoffs this year. So a pending UFA and a so-far bust that has barely played nhl for a top six guy on de want can interact would absolutely appeal to them.

08 Aug 2019 02:22:47
Why the h ell would the blues trade Dunn for dermott. Dunn is far superior and established Dman with 35 pts on third line minutes. Young elc player. Dermot got 17 points. So Dunn doubled his production. Yet Dermot and 2nd lol. Get a clue leafsgm.

08 Aug 2019 12:11:11
Get a clue?

Redwing1 i got to say love your passion for the blues but your aggressive response is not needed on this site. Whether you agree or disagree with this deal there is no need to act the way you do.

it was such a minor who gives a rats ass kind of deal anyways. Pretty sure leafsgm stated "not sure what i was smoking when i came up with that deal"

That basically ends conversation when the creater of the subject thinks his idea was rubbish.

08 Aug 2019 16:27:20
Craiger you say its a i don't give a rats ass kind of trade. A top4 offensive lhd who has put up 35 points and was +14 at the age of 22. For a guy who has no value at all makes sense. I wouldn't be so "passionette" if these trades were not so completely ridiculous. Seriously, either leafs didn't know who dunn was which is understandable, its hard to know everyteams players. I would say do your research before posting. Or he knew and really thinks dermot is worth something which is completely stupid. either way the onus is on him to present a decent prop.

08 Aug 2019 17:03:38
Wow, you turned who gives a rats ass into i don't give a rats ass. 2 differant meanings but that's ok.

Lou and hunter in 2015 made the call on dermott. Solid dman who put up decent points considering who his forwards were. i'm sure if dubas got to make the call he would of taken Dunn who had a better final year in the ohl on a less talented squad. (if they come from the ohl ill know who they are)

Dunn and dermott are very similar in size, skating, vision and passing. Dunn looks at the moment much better at all 4. This is why a 2nd would need to be thrown in on the leafs end to make this deal close. I said i'd prefer a 4th but that's just me. I know it would take more.

Dunn would simply be the leafs 3rd LHD just like dermott is. No point making this trade and giving up more young assets, as its such an insignificant change that it becomes a who gives a rats ass kind of deal. Youve turned this trade into something way larger than it is. Then again maybe youve done your job as youve loored me into this conversation much more than what i attended to be drawn into. Good work if that was your goal.

08 Aug 2019 18:44:31
Dermott has a down year last year. Trying to play through injuries and missing almost 2” games will do that. However, examining underlying stats, past just the headline numbers of goals and points, and you can see that his other metrics of performance were good. Possession numbers excellent. He had a lot more hits than Dunn, despite playing fewer games.

To suggest that Dunn is so far ahead of Dermott is simply partisanship. It reveals an extreme underlying bias to the poster. Craigger is probably more accurate that the difference between Dunn and Dermott is more like a 4th. I suggested a 2nd because I wanted a done deal. Beacuase I thought Dermott was making something like $4M when I posted this proposal. Hence the “what was i smoking comment”. Being as Dermott and Dunn make the same, there is literally no reason to make this deal.

Remember when Trouba finally hot trades, and it was like for a quarter of what the Winnipeg guys on here said he would go for? Remember how you, and everyone else, felt vindicated and laughed at the Winnipeg guys? Right now, you’re the Winnipeg guys, but on steroids.

Your aggression reveals a possible psychological condition that extends beyond just an immature mind still in development. It’s a possible psychosis that is revealing itself in fantasy forums where you can post aggressive comments like this without repercussions. You need to really stop and count to ten and see what the other person is getting at and understand why he would suggest that rather than just immediately become defensive and leap to your teams defense. There are a lot of trades suggested on here every day. Probably more than on the main forum. But 99% of the correspondents are cordial, despite obvious differences of opinion. It’s a fact of life that not everyone agrees. It’s the ability to disagree without aggression that separates the men from the boys, however. And right now, I have to believe that most members of both this forum and the main forum (I spy on the main page regularly), do not believe you to have a mature adult mind yet redwing. I’m not trying to be condenscending, I’m just saying it as it is. If you want to have a more enjoyable experience, take the time to make friendly disagreeable responses rather than be so hypersensitive to any suggestions to trades with your team.

08 Aug 2019 19:33:34
Why would you want 2 Nylanders?

08 Aug 2019 20:08:37
Because 3 nylanders is better than 2.but for now as meatloaf says 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

08 Aug 2019 22:35:47
Seriously if you think Dermot is on Finns level then there is no point in arguing with you. Dunn is by far superior and doubled him in points. Almost as bad as leafs gm saying 19 year old Robert thomas is a bust lol.

08 Aug 2019 23:55:31
@oldtimer

The whole reason for the Chicago trade is because Leafs can’t protect Hyman for the expansion draft, whereas Nylander doesn’t need to be protected, and Gustafsson is IFA after this year, so will walk. If we re-sign any of the defensemen we brought in this year, we can protect at least one more to go along with Rielly and Dermott, leaving Harpur exposed. It’s far better than losing Hyman for nothing. If anyone can get young Alex Nylander to play nhl level game, it’s his brother. Just seems like a natural fit.

I think Chicago would make that trade too. Bowman’s job is on the line. A pending UFA and a so-far bust for a top six player on a good contract is a good deal for a team that absolutely must make the playoffs this year if the GM wants to keep his job.

09 Aug 2019 00:29:48
I just read something fun. There are some on this site who seem to only judge trades based on how many points the player got, makes me think.

Marner can get dealt for anyone but 10 players.

09 Aug 2019 01:27:49
There isn’t large enough sample size to say positively who is better right now. One year of play is hardly a significant length of time to make a meaningful comparison. Maybe in three years we can come back and review this discussion. Right now it’s purely speculation. Neither of us has seen enough of the other teams players to know for one thing. Other than the finals I maybe saw a half dozen blues games last year. Maybe. And I’m sure you didn’t watch a whole lot of Leaf games. Either way, like I said, one season, the rookie season at that, is not a large enough sample size to prove anything.
