I don't think like this deal personally because dealing for dubois who is only 1 year younger than marner makes the leafs weaker in many aspects of the game. Yes dubois is a young C but projected on the leafs he becomes a 3C or a 1LW. So essentially this deal, because it is with the leafs, becomes a winger for a winger. Marner and taveras make each othet better. I don't know if dubois makes either taveras or matthews better.

Trading chemistry for unknown chemestry is a tough one to judge

That's exactly why you don't trade Marner. Unless it's for a good winger and a good young controllable Dman.

Look craigger you say a lot of stupid things but this tops the cake. Dubois is a 1c. At 20 he had a 60pt season at center. It doesn't matter if you will view him as a winger on th cbj and every other team he is a legit 21 year old 1c on good contract.

I know marner is a great fantastic young talent. But teams just don't trade 1c and #1 d for wingers who want short term and 11 mil contracts. Seriously stop trying to poach top young centers and d from teams that have those players as their team need.

Dubois at 3C playing with Kerfoot and either Bracco or Mikheyev would be a solid third line. We roll all three lines almost equal minutes and give Dubois the extra time on PP and extra shifts on Wing beside either Tavares or Matthews. It’s not an optimal situation, but it could work. And with the money saved from not signing Marner, we can bring back Gardiner and maybe even another forward or defenseman at deadline to help us push for the cup.

Not an optimal situation. I like Dubois as an option because in 5 years we run the risk of losing both Matthews and Tavares. So much for any hope at winning the cup then. I know I’m talking a half decade away. But if we were to draft a center and develop him, it would be a huge undertaking that would take a few years at least anyway. We need to be prepared for the loss of one, or both those guys. Dubois would be more than adequate insurance for that reason.

I still like Marner better though obviously. Would prefer to keep him than a 1-for-1 for Dubois.

once again you misread what i was saying.
I was simply saying on the Leafs Dubois gets pushed down to 3C or 1LW. Getting a young C is not what the leafs are looking for in a deal for Marner so Leafs pass

anything else.

Marner is probably not going anywhere. But that’s beside the point. It’s fun to make believe trade him. If we all stuck to “realistic” trades, it would lose appeal pretty fast.
