carolina has abundance of D and need wingers so this helps them with that problem

Edmonton needs expierence D so Jones,Bouchard and Bear can ease into NHL so getting an extra D in this deal helps that

Toronto needs physical D and this helps them with that

As far as 3 way trades go I think this is very well thought out and all teams get what they currently need. Not sure Carolina wants Puljujarvi but if they do then I would take it.

Why do you want another lHd you already have muzzin and reilly. This doesn't make sense. The dman you need is pesce. Also leafs Kappenan alone doesn't get you nurse or pesce.

I agree Kapanen alone doesn't get you either Pesce or Nurse so that's why Dermott was in this deal. whether a guy is LD or RD doesn't matter. Nurse in an upgrade from Dermott at this point in time. Nurse can also play right side if needed. He did it a lot in past.

How is this terrible for the leafs? Nurse plays with Reilly on the right side then moves to 2LHD next year when Muzzin leaves. Makes perfect sense.

Idk if I would trade Dermott straight up for Nurse. Dermott will be just as good if not better and he is still really going and developing.

Kapanen for Pesce again is interesting but I think the reason it fell through last year is because the leafs can’t afford Pesce. They would need Carolina to take someone like Ceci to be able to afford Pesce. This would probably result in a good prospect going to Carolina and idk if Dubas would want to do that.

Lol Dermott played bottom pair last year and did well @Redwing1 he isn't worth nothing. He has developed as he has been allowed too and when Muzzin gone will probably become 2LHD. We will see how he does then but he looks good. I would not throw Sandin in ahead of Dermott.

I agree nurse is better than dermott at this point of time but dermott is definetly good enough to be in the NHL. Why insult players with more talent in their pinky than any of us have?

If Sandin is ready than i guess there will be internal competition for that 3rd LD spot.

Possible overpayment by the Leafs. Depends how much you really value Nurse over Dermott. If you think Nurse is the guy we need, then this deal makes sense. Personally I’m not convinced Nurse - Dermott = Kapanen. But I do agree Nurse is more proven than Dermott and would be an upgrade for sure. I’m only looking at this from Leafs perspective so can’t comment on the other two teams here. I think the three team trade here might be a little more complicated than need be though. Edmonton is desperate for wingers. Kapanen + Dermott to Edmonton for Nurse would likely be an easier trade and one that Edmonton would likely make.
