Full points for thinking of something not mentioned 1000 times already.

I seriously doubt EDM does this. Even if we just consider Marner is a 90pt scorer that's sub 30 goals and draisaitl last season was a 50 goal 100+ pts scorer. That's not even close to even when you consider draisaitl only makes 8.5 and Marner wants more than that on a bridge never mind a long term deal.

Can you explain how you got to this one?

The logic of this trade is that what is happening in Edmonton is clearly not working.

Toronto's Marner will provide a lethal combination with McDavid.

Neal will work with Nugent Hopkins as a second line. These two lines become the core for Edmonton going forward. After next year. Edmonton has to revamp the third and fourth line and has the monies to do so almost $11 MM.

The second best player is being traded from each team, with Defensemen being swapped as secondary tier consideration.

Leafs give up grip to a team that needs some grit in the forward position as a secondary part of the trade.

with new management, this is a type of deal I could see Edmonton seeking out. Marner with McDavid would be lethal, a bit more lethan than he was with JT.

Yeah I have to agree with leafs life. This is completely ridiculous on all fronts.

Drais at 8 50g 100pt player and a center is far superior to Marner. Then you add their best RHD for ceci (cap dump) Hyman (40pt no body) Seriously what are you thinking. This is just bad.

If edmonton would do it i think its something to look in to

matthews/ taveras/ draisaitl could be 140-150 goals. WOW!

bracco would get like 60-80 assists just being on the ice with any of these 3 while nylander could hit 80-100 points for that very same reason. where do we sign up.

Yeah I see the reasoning I just doubt most see Marner as in the same league as Draisaitl right now based on last season and contract ask. You would probably have to add Sandin and a few picks to have that convo. Who on EDM can replace Draisaitl 50g 100pts right now?

Draisaitl never had a 30 goal year until last year which he broke out. marner scored at same rate as draisaitl up to this point in his career. The inflation rate in north america in last 2 years is around 17.5% from when draisaitl signed his 8.5 m contract. That equates to the 10.5 marner is looking for. Marner was 3rd in primary assist % only behind mcdavid and crosby. ask draisaitl and guenzel if theyd ever deal their primary setup guys for anyone. i'm pretty sure taveras would have same answer as them.

When draisaitl signed almost every person watching hockey thought it was ridiculous. Then 2 years later draisaitl breaks out and the deal looks good for the oilers. Players are seeing this and won't get burned like that anymore. Its the way of buisness now. pay me for my projections not for what i am right now. ever watch dragons den or shark tank even they have changed stradegies in last 2 years. Players contracts are their buisness. i bet on myself i get paid and short term. you bet on me you pay me a long time for a little less term. things run differently and st. louis will feel it very soon as well.

17.5% inflation sounds a little high to me Craigger. Lol. But I loved the read. Marner is a top 5 winger in the league in my opinion btw. I don’t know if he is more valuable than Draisaitl or not. Certainly to the Leafs he is. And Edmonton probably feels the same way about Draisaitl too I’m sure.

It seems like all you have to do is suggest any top 4RHD in the league and he is worth more than Marner. Doesn’t matter if he has 1 year left on his contract or 8 years, he’s still worth more. And some cases, he doesn’t have to even be in the nhl and is still worth more than Marner. It’s amazing that an NCAA player can be worth more than a 3 year nhl player with over 20 goals and almost 100 points last year. But it’s true. Makar is worth more than Marner. I can’t figure out why the real nhl gm’s don’t know this yet though. They keep trading players like Subban and Karlsson and Trouba for picks/ prospects and depth roster players. If only they knew they could have got Marner. Wow. Those gm’s should be fired for trading those players for so low.

real life inflation is 2-3% per year depending where you live of course.

also, let's see how Makar plays a full year before annointing him any norris or even dealing him for Marner. So many players play out their arse in their first playoff run only to decline the following year.
