Kinda ignore the trade since I wanna talk for a little. I'm not trying to blame Kapanen. I don't believe this is all his fault at all. He's looked good at times so I'm not blaming him
I'm just saying having some more grit would do Tavares and Marner better because it did last year. So once again my points are it's not all kapanens fault, we need to play better as a team, new line mates can help that.

I mean, this is a permanent fix to a temporary problem right? Hyman will be back very soon and you want to trade Kapanen for Hyman replacement.

It may be a temporary problem but if we don’t fix it now then by the time Hyman comes back we’re going to be under 500.

@LeafsLife you nailed it. Permanent fix to a temporary problem. Kapanen is a bad fit on LW, on that everyone can agree. Lucky for everyone, Kapanen won't be playing LW come November!

It’s looking more and more like Kapanen loses his protection status for the expansion draft to Hyman. At this time last year I could never had said that without getting mustard on my face. This year it’s a completely different story. So if Kapanen loses out to Hyman, he is automatically Leafs biggest trade chip. But not until he can rebuild some value. Right now his value is low because of his poor start to the season. Let’s get him where he belongs first and then re-evaluate in a couple months time.

Why doesn't babcock just cut his loses and try mikheyev up the lineup so kapanen can go to his most suited spot with moore and kerfoot.

I mean 1 game try it. couldn't be any worse

If kappy goes a dman better be coming back. have a lot of forwards to try before dealing him for another forward

Thats my take anyways i'm sure its debatable.

Craigger i agree with everything you said. Move Kapanen at the end of the season for an RHD. Put Mickey up with 91 and 16 right now. Wham bam.

I'm not the biggest Babcock fan as I believe he rides his plan to the end. He won't change for anybody barring an injury but that said, he may know something we don't on why Mik hasn't played top line thus far. He is clearly a fan of the big Russian so I would assume he would gladly play him higher in the lineup if he could. Maybe the language barrier is a lot for him right now?

You may be right with that language barrier LeafsLife. hockey has its own language on the ice though. sure some guys yell all game long but gestures and stick bangs go a long way when you're on the ice.

I remember in jr we had an import player. His english just wasnt there. I got stuck as his linemate. Due to his amazing hockey IQ we didn't heed to say a damn thing. Just gesturing and stick banging. play a proper zone game and it won't matter. These pros are way better than our iq on the ice ever was so it really shouldn't be hard. Kapanen shouldn't even be this bad at LW if tavares and marner are as good as they get paid. Should be able to put a monkey on skates and be good enough for them. my god 21.9 million dollars and we are all blaming kapanen. maybe break up tavares and marner before dealing kapanen. lol

@Craiiger agree 100% but I don't mean the on ice language barrier. Babcock said something a couple days ago about telling mikeyhev something and he wasn't sure if he understood him. By language barrier I mean coach to player. New coaches, new country, new schemes, new ice, etc. a lot of new things for Mikheyev to learn right now maybe he just wants to introduce him slowly instead of against top liners right away.

Now i get what you are writing. yeah, if babcock doesn't think he understands him how about explain it better babcock. babs is so stuck in his way wish keefe was the coach. only thing holding this team back is their freakin coach.
