To tor
Tatar,fleury,2nd round pick 2020

To tor
Nylander

So tatar gets same output as nylander does playing with matthews plus you can have him either side..you only get him for 2 years though but for 2 million less

Fleury is looking like the 2017-18 version of josh morrisey but from right side..him and sandin for years to come plus he is protected at the expansion draft

2nd round pick is self explanitory

Now question becomes can , in 2 years once tatar turns 30 and is ufa, the leafs replace that same spot on the roster with a prospect they have now or the 6.9 million they have in extra salary at that time?

If so then getting fleury and a 2nd appears to be for nothing...thats a hell of a deal in my eyes...cant lose something if it keeps getting replaced by the same production right?

Your logic is flawed. You are forgetting that the replacement in house for Nylander also has value. You aren’t getting it for nothing. You are getting it at the cost of the value in trade of the replacement plus Nylander.

For instance. We keep Nylander and don’t trade for the other two guys. Now the replacement coming up in the system is going to have trade value. And if he’s going to be Nylander’s replacement, you can be sure he has lots of trade value. So, when you trade Nylander and lose Tatar after two years, the in house replacement steps in for Nylander for “free” is what you think. But in actual fact, it’s not “free”. It’s costing whatever that replacements trade value is. Which, like I said, if he is slated to be Nylander’s replacement, is going to be quite high. I don’t think Fleury and the 2nd cover that amount of value for a player that would be projected that highly.

I agree on the statement of you never lost if the production is replaced. I don’t care if Jim Bob is on the team as long as they win the cup. I don’t want to be like the cub fans that went 100 years without winning it all!
It’s been long enough at least the Montreal fans my age got 93 to fall back on.

I don’t know enough about Fleury though if he is like a young Morrisey then I can c why u like this trade. Nylander has looked so good, wonder if his worth more. Would Domi and Fleury be to much of an ask?

Tatar, Fleury, 2nd makes me feel like we should have more still. Tatar leaving in two years means we only have Fleury + 2nd. It doesn’t matter if we replace. Nylander from within. I see your point how Fleury + 2nd are “free” because we replace Nylander from within. But I’d still rather have Nylander + Nylander Replacement over Nylander Replacement + Fleury + 2nd in two years. See what I’m saying? Unless you get the right amount back, we still feel short changed in two years after Tatar leaves.

Tatar is not that level of a player. I don't think Montreal is looking to part with cale.

Yeah i see all your points. Tatar can't even really considered equal to nylander. i just think he will get nylanders points but that's about it.

Im also not confident leafs will have anythng significant to replace that position with in 2 years

Leafs have more RD prospects than top 6 RW prospects.

Leafs pass. thanks for advise everyone.

I would second that as well. Bracco is the best prospect player we have. And I think it’s safe to say, he ain’t no Nylander. While he has potential to be a middle six player somewhat along the same level as Kapanen, I have my doubts he will ever be as good as Nylander.

At the moment we have no in-house prospect to replace Nylander any time soon. In two years or five, it doesn’t matter. Our picks have all come in too late to expect any of them to develop into top line players. Even the best of them: Robertson, SDA, Bracco. None of these guys are projected to be more than middle six players. Which is fine. We have all the superstars we could possibly need. But would feel more comfortable with a couple a-prospects for forward position to go along with Sandin and Liljegren on defense.
