perfer to keep Reilly. his game suits leafs more than Paraykos game. Blais would be a welcome addition but st. louis is very high on him right now.

16 Oct 2019 13:42:42
Why on earth would you trade reilly.

16 Oct 2019 15:48:55
For once, I agree with RedWing. Lol. Reilly is easily the better player. Parayko is more like 3rd tier. He might be the best if the 2RHD out there, but he is still only 2RHD. Not a true top line player. Whereas Reilly is obviously a top line player and possible future Norris candidate.

The only way we trade Reilly is if we get a top level talent back. Another player that is in the top 15 defensemen. The true elite. The 1%.

16 Oct 2019 16:25:07
Lol you guy are silly Reilly is good yes but defensively he’s not the strongest leafs lack size and toughness on there back end Parayko gives us that Toronto resigns Barrie there’s your offensive guy along with Sandin and Dermott somewhat it’s a win for both teams imo.

16 Oct 2019 16:31:28
The Leafs will walk away from Barrie and Muzzin in the offseason and sign Pietrangelo!

16 Oct 2019 16:57:36
If your basing Rielly off his point totals last year do yourself a favour and think if he wasn’t on the top power play unit does he come close to reaching that total no.

16 Oct 2019 17:16:05
If you base any top PP dman off his points and think if he wasnt on the top power play unit does he come close to reaching that total. no

there is a reason why top point getting dmen run the top PP units. because they are just that. top point getting dmen. its the circle of point getting dmen.

16 Oct 2019 17:53:53
What I’m saying is a lot of those points were secondary assist which inflates his stats to be honest I think Barrie has look far better and I think Reilly for the right guy is expandable I think Parayko is the type of player the leafs need more of.

16 Oct 2019 18:20:15
Not entirely true. And overlooks the fact that a lot of those secondary assists were stretch passes to break out the forwards. He also regularly leads the rush. Saying you should take his pp points off is ridiculous. Lol. Then we would have to take everyone in the leagues pp off for a fair compare. But it doesn’t natter, because his stats five on five are excellent too. But don’t take my word for it. See for yourself. Look up any current ra king and you will find Reilly among top 10. Parayko might break top 50, but not really. Reilly was even a top 5 for Norris voting last year.

16 Oct 2019 18:20:46
It could work. i'd just rather keep the for sure than a could. but your points are very valid.

16 Oct 2019 21:31:58
Why trade Rielly for Parayko, same dollar figures. Keep Reilly instead. Trade Krapenen + Hutchison for the best backup you can get.

Than extend Barrie for 8 x $7 MM WHICH is covered by Ceci salary dump for next year.

Re-upp Muzzin 5 years x 5.5 Million. Dermott $2 MM x 2 years. Trading Kapenen allows this to occur. This works under the projected $83.5 MM Salary Cap for next year.

Johnsson Matthews Nylander 22
Hyman Tavares Marner 24.15
Mikheyev Kerfoot Moore 6
Shore Gaulthier Timayshov 2.4
Total $54.55

Reilly Dermott 7
Muzzin Barrie 12.5
Sandin Marincin 1.6
21

Anderson Saros Kessel 7.5

$83.45 MM for 2020-21.

16 Oct 2019 22:05:53
Lol Parayko For Reilly. We got another blues fan around here eh?

16 Oct 2019 22:19:07
Heatdreamer. I love it. Looking at what you suggest it makes a lot of sense. Only thing I would suggest though is that the expansion draft is coming in a couple years. So re-signing both Muzzin and Barrie long term means one of them is going to be exposed. (Or Dermott or Reilly) . I don’t think Leafs will do that. They might trade Kapanen though. Just for the same reason. Rather than risk losing him for nothing in the draft, trade him for the best they can get now.

16 Oct 2019 22:43:34
If you think parayko is a 3 tier Dman then it's apparent you don't judge talent very well.

17 Oct 2019 00:20:33
Well, he’s definitely not top tier, among with the Norris winning caliber defensemen: burns, Karlsson, Doughty, Hedman, Subban, Klingberg, Carlsson, etc. And then that gives us 2nd tier: guys that are just on the edge of being Norris caliber: Muzzin, Barrie, Trouba, Dumba, Ellis, etc. Then comes 3rd tier: Parayko, Ristolainen, Gostisbehere, Morrisey, etc.

If anything, I have Parayko too high at third tier. He could be dropped a full tier and would still be about the same.

Please don’t try and tell me he’s Norris caliber defenseman RedWing. Because he’s not. Which means he’s either just below Norris winner (he’s not), or he’s third tier or lower. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and called him third tier. He might not even be that.

17 Oct 2019 00:51:23
Depends what the requirement is to be in each tier

My definition
Tier 1 definetly not Parayko (franchise perenial top 10 norris canidate)
Tier 2 still not parayko (top pairing top 11-31 dman)
Tier 3 there's parayko (great second option on any team top 32-50 dman)
Tier 4 dmen who are top 4 but can't be built around top 50-100)

Odviously some teams can have multiple tier 1 or tier 2 guys thus making other teams have very weak defence. its the way it is. not a biggy if you disagree its just how i see it.

17 Oct 2019 07:38:37
Very well explained Craigger. That pretty well sums it up.

17 Oct 2019 13:06:19
LeafsGM summed it up pretty well as well. same meaning . that seems to happen alot. lol.

17 Oct 2019 13:44:40
The Norris voting is based off point totals so guys like burns and Karlsson are always up there even tho they are terrible defensively I guess it depends on how you look at it because there are stay at home dmen and then your offensive dmen I honestly think hedmen is the best all around dman in the league and a guy like Parayko would be considered one of the better stay at home guys in the league but the trade sparked some good debate I think with Ceci playing with Reilly it’s really brought down Reilly’s game so far this year.

17 Oct 2019 15:11:07
cant be scored on if your the one creating the goals going in the opposition net. i'd say that's the better defence anyday.

17 Oct 2019 17:53:50
Ok what ever you two say. I guarantee 9 out of 10 gms would pick parayko 9ver Barrie.

17 Oct 2019 18:03:32
You would think until it gets you dominated in the first round of the playoffs.

17 Oct 2019 21:29:59
Domnated? Colombus now they dominated in the 1st round. Toronto lost game 7 and st. louis did not. that was the differance between the 2 teams.

18 Oct 2019 01:14:23
Over Barrie? How did this conversation that started out as Reilly compared to Parayko end up with Parayko and Barrie?

Would I take Parayko over Reilly? No. Absolutely not.

Would I take Parayko over Barrie? Maybe. Probably not. Parayko is everything I like in a big stay-at-home defenseman. But Leafs are built for speed and skill. As much as I like Parayko, he doesn’t fit Leafs system at all. Barrie does. The two players are just too different to make direct comparison. The fact is, Barrie is a very good offensive defenseman, and that is what Dubas is building his team around. Goals, and lots of them.

18 Oct 2019 03:01:55
@Craigger yes he did but for simple minds *Cough* redwing1 that's a lot easier.
