Leafs trade Johnson Barrie
Ducks trade Manson

Something isn't kosher here and I need to get LEAFSGM on the case to tell me what it is. Positives the big Russian looks great the souperman. The goat has improved and Moore looks great but something isn't good here. All I think that's missing is size on the blue line thoughts

Agree0 Disagree1

Johnson is hands down not the guy you want to move. If they will take Kapanen, even with a small add, that is a much better option. Losing a LW is not a good idea right now especially Johnson. That Mathews line looks so good it's unreal that isn't something you want to break up right now.

Is getting big slower dman the answer? Its not torontos size that is killing them. Its the fact they play run and gun hockey. When it doesn't work its odd man rushes coming back. If rielly, ceci, barrie or muzzin were slow theyd loss a lot more than they do now. Until the forwards tighten up a bit manson will be viewed as torontos whipping boy because he can't keep up with the endless odd man rushes. Once toronto plays less loose then manson will be a good fit. No structure causes slow guys to appear even slower.

Also, aniheim will want young controllable players coming back. Barrie may not be their target. then again you hever know

I love manson but not if torontos play makes him look bad.

Kapanan and maybe Ceci Barrie is way more valuable then pretty much anyone on the ducks.

Kapanen + Hyman for Rakell

Petan + Engvall + Hutchison for Demko.

Rackell doesn’t improve us enough to lose both Kapanen and Hyman Kappy + 3rd for Rackell.

As for the trade itself David, I’m not sure Anaheim does this. Manson is the stereotypical big stay at home defensemen we all want. I’ve been big on Manson for years, and unlike a few guys on site, I still think he is a big upgrade over, say, Ceci, just for example. He makes approximately the same.

Johnsson as our top LW is a keeper. Unless we can replace him, then we shouldn’t trade him at all. Same can be said for Human too I guess.

Thanks for the call out David.

I love Manson. I really do. It’s a true bromance there. Value wise, yes, I think the value is there. Especially giving them Barrie as a kicker for this year. That alone makes Anaheim a much better team this year. And if they re-sign Barrie long term, it gives them a much better team for years to come. It would also signal a shift in Anaheim’s defensive strategy too maybe? Guys like Gardiner, Montour, Larsson, Theodore, etc. have all been traded away while Anaheim kept the more stay at home guys. Known for playing a tight-knit defense first style game, Anaheim has generally held onto the bigger heavy hitters like Manson, while parting with the more skilled speedy guys like Montour. So, dealing Manson for Barrie seems to suggest a different approach to Anaheim’s game plan. Otherwise they wouldn’t rush to break up one of the best defensive pairings in the game right now.

Manson is my favourite target for Leafs to pursue if they can get him for the right price. I really don’t think there are too many other defensemen that can play a 2-way game as good as he can.

@Leafs1994 Barrie isn't very valuable at all lol. He is a rental top 4 D. In a Barrie for Manson trade the ducks probably say no. They would rather have a younger player and/ or prospect.

Just remember, it was Kadri for Kerfoot with Barrie thrown-in. His pending UFA status means he has very little time value left. If we were to try and trade Barrie, a return like Ottawa got for Karlsson would be the very most we could reasonable expect.

I just assumed he was throw in on this trade. Johnsson is the prize. Barrie just gives them someone to replace Manson this year. Barrie wouldn’t be needed on Leafs if we got Manson. Though I’m surprised you didn’t say Ceci like 99% of posters would. I think Manson would be a steady 30 point guy for years on the Leafs. And I can see him creeping back into the top 50 no problem playing for the Leafs. Anaheim only trades Manson though if they are packing it in and going for the tank and complete rebuild. If that’s the case, maybe we can’t ake advantage.
