Burns 8 million and Hertl 5.625 to Toronto for Kerfoot 3.5, Kapanen 3.2, Ceci 4.5, Bracco, Agostino, 1st in 2021. With SJ eating half of Burns contract for the balance of this season, to facilitate the trade. Leafs save approx 1.5 million.

Whatever is retained $ wise 1 year is retained all years until contract is complete. an amount of retained is agreed then divided evenly until contract is over. can't just retain 1 year. sorry.

These trades are getting crazier by the day. Kennedy you definitely have an imagination my boy. No doubt about that. I’m not going to comment on the trade because it’s another far out trip. But I will talk about one of my favourite players.

Without doubt Burns is still a star. A superstar. San Jose has Karlsson now. Do they really need Burns? I don’t know, but if we take on Burns and he doesn’t help out our defense we can always put him on wing again. He would be better than most of the guys we got except maybe Marner.

Obviously the worry about taking on Burns would be that monster contract of his at his age. None of those big name defensemen with their huge contracts are looking good right now. Karlsson, Doughty, Subban, Suter, Seabrook, Keith. All those guys are looking more like boat anchors right now than Norris winning defensemen. Will Burns tank the same way? Hard to say. But recent history seems to indicate that caution should be used when taking on a defenseman over 28/ 29 years old with big contracts. In fact, it’s actually rather remarkable how much these guys seem to drop off after 31. Considering defensemen are supposed to take longer to develop and peak than forwards, I’m surprised that it seems to be trending the opposite way now. “31 and done” is the new slogan for today’s defensemen, not forwards.

I would love Burns on the team. At least for a couple years. But the cost of acquisition would be too high, and so would the risk associated with it.

I appreciate you trying to keep some of the newer members contributing proposals guidance on trade value. It “keeps them in line” as you like to say. But you sound like a broken record. Why not add to the discussion and talk about something other than value? That’s what I do a lot of the time when I see a proposal I don’t agree with. Find something else in the proposal to talk about and get discussion flowing in another direction. Talk about how crappy San Jose is and how Ottawa night score a lottery pick from SJ tanking this year. Talk about How great Burns is. Talk about how bad a decision it was for SJ to pay Karlsson $11M and the impact it’s had on the team by losing Pavelski as a result. Talk about how crappy Kerfoot has been doing since becoming a Leaf while Kadri is having a career year in Colorado. Talk about anything other than just a one line retort with the word poo in it. I’ve seen from your discussions with Blues that you have a lot to offer in a debate. And when you tap that potential it’s fun bantering with you. But this whole let’s pick on the newbies by calling their obviously first attempt at a proposal poo is getting old and is dismissive. Take a new approach is all I’m saying.

I will add t gis burns and karlson are awefu l defenders. The blues exploited this in the playoffs and shut down their points. I have said it once and I will say it again. Leafs need defence not offence from whom ever they get on the backend moving forward.

I agree with redwing there. Burns and Karlsson are absolutely not what the leafs need. Let's explore some options from teams who are not likely to make the play offs who might want to make a trade.

Sens- Boroweicki
Jackets- Savard
Minny- Dumba
Preds- Ekholm
Kings- Doughty
Ducks- Gudbransen.

Gudbranson would be the cheapest on this list. I don’t know how much a fan of him at $4M I would be though. I really don’t see him being the guy to put us over the top for the cup.

I actually like Savard best here. His contract is short term and he’s not a big name like Doughty. He would carry the least risk and a rebuilding Columbus team will be looking for picks/ prospects. I imagine the price for a Savard would be very similar as the cost for Muzzin last year. Only we would have to be giving up next years first, and I’m not sure I like that idea because we would be digging a hole for ourselves then.

On that list I agree Dumba is the guy to have. I would also be happy with Savard.
