Leafs trade Johnsson
Rangers trade Kreider, K’Andre Miller

Ok, so this one’s for Tuck000. I got to know, why do you want to trade Johnsson so bad? And would this be enough return for him if we did?

Kreider is UFA after this year and we don’t re-sign him. This leaves us with an easy seven forwards to protect for the entry draft in 2021 (Hyman, Tavares, Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Kapanen, Kerfoot) . We gain Miller as our long term asset in the deal. A budding young defenseman with upside who is protected from the draft and possibly makes the team next year, but more likely makes it for the 2021/ 2022 season. (Sandin and Liljegren get promoted next year, and the following year should see Miller and hopefully Duszak and/ or Hollowell) .

So you added Georgiev at a cost of Kapanen, Hutchinson, Hollowell, 2nd? I like Georgiev and think he is starter quality, but not at that cost.

I like it GM. I think if we threw in Bracco we'd get that and a pick from NYR .2nd perhaps?
Johnsson seems to disappear a lot of nights and doesn't play
with any kind of edge. Kappy seems to have picked it up a bit. Therefore, I believe him (AJ) to be expendable.

And Kreider is worth all that? Or is it the backup goalie that is worth all that? Or is it the prospect that is worth all that? A UFA, backup goalie, and a prospect for two roster players, a backup goalie, a defensive prospect, and a 2nd. Yup. Sounds pretty realistic to me. I’m sure Dubas would jump on that.

Kreider isn’t much better than Johnsson and is a pending UFA. He’s not the next Gordie Howe and wouldn’t be on the team next year. I don’t think Leafs would lose two roster players for three guys, none of whom would be playing on the team full time next year. That doesn’t make any sense to me. Maybe to you, but you might have a different idea of what realistic is than I do.

I don’t know if Bracco is worth a 2nd or if Rangers would be willing to part with a 2nd for Bracco. If they would do that, then Leafs should make that swap too. We’ve obviously pretty much given up on Bracco. There just isn’t room for him to squeeze into the roster. At this point, I think you have the right idea though. Throw him in as part of a bigger deal and hope it either cements the deal to get us what we really want, or it gives us a little more return on what we are trading (like a 2nd) . It’s a good idea.

I can understand why you would don’t like Johnsson and would want to trade him. He’s definitely not a part of the “core” players the team is built around. I like Johnsson personally. But I like rooting for the underdog though. And Johnsson as a 7th round pick was someone I never expected to make the team. So now that he is on the Leafs, and playing well, I kinda have a soft spot for him. A lot of guys on the team (Matthews and Nylander stand out especially here) seem to have stretches where they aren’t giving it all they have. Nylander got benched almost the entire third period just the other day. So did Kapanen. It’s a real flaw that the entire team seems to have. Maybe moving Johnsson would be a wake up call to the other guys. Kreider brings a lot to a team that doesn’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet. His experience and being a few years older makes him seem like a more mature player as well. If we move Johnsson I would like to see a big power toward like Kreider come in and do the job instead of a another floater. We already have too many.

As well leafsgm signing pietrangelo requires cap space. Hence the shedding of Kapanen and johnsson
