We get three years of Byfield on his ELC. That takes us up until Matthews final year on his contract. We can then trade Matthews for a HUGE return since we won’t be able to re-sign him, and we give Byfield his money instead.

Byfield isn't even as good as Nylander. And he isn't even drafted yet, so I'm not sure who your trading with?

Not sure if I would do this. This is such a deep draft coming up if I wanted to take chances I would trade Marner, Muzzin, Barrie and Nylander for picks and just draft everything.

Notice I didn’t put a team name down? That’s because Byfield isn’t drafted yet. That was very insightful and observant of you. This is a rhetorical proposition. None of these trades are real. See how none of the other responses point out the obvious. That’s because Byfield isn’t drafted yet. Grow a pair of balls and post a trade yourself for once.

Whoever gets the 2nd overall might be looking for a quick turnaround. Something like the Lindros trade maybe. This trade would be a huge step in the right direction.

What’s the difference between trading all those guys for picks and my proposal? The whole point is to draft the best players and Byfield is one of the best in a long time. Why not just make the deal with whoever gets the 2nd overall? Less loss of players and we target who we want this way.

You got me thinking now . If we trade Marner for example, we could target a team that has multiple first round picks and second round picks and take them all. He’s worth at least four 1st round picks. Who would you target for a team to trade guys like a Nylander Nd Marner to for just picks?

That's what I mean @LeafsGm. Saying best prospect is very hard or else the oiler's would have 7 cups in the last 10 years. Lol. Doesn't always translate as well as Mathews did. Who got the better deal in the Lindros trade for example? If this was a rebuild year and someone was willing to give up firsts I would rather take on as many 1st and second as possible and hope for the best. This is the best draft in a long time.

Forgot to answer your question. If this were the case and we could work something out I would be sending Marner to Carolina for our first back plus their 1st. Then probably target a team like Ottawa that won't make the playoffs. 3 1sts, a few extra 2nd and a decent defender plus a prospect coming back in exchange for some form of trade with those two.

If this were a tank year anyway lol.

Leafs GM: I post the odd trade. Why so much love for Byfield? That's a whole lot to give away for an unproven player. I'm waiting for him to actually do something in the Tournament.

Byfield is big, strong, great skater and great shot. He is literally the whole package.
