Two team that are similar

Tor: Barrie kapanen Bracco
Cgf: Brodie Bennett

A win for both teams Toronto gets a more stay at home guy to play with Reilly and then we get Bennett who plays with a bit of an edge but I think it's pretty even Barrie and Brodie are ufas and kappy and Bennett have term

Agree0 Disagree0

Im rather johnsson goes. I have a soft spot for kap. One of the few that’ll lay a hit.

Rather keep ours.

Timashov hits a lot more than Kappy.

I’d rather move Johnsson too but with his injury he doesn’t have a lot of value and leafs life why leafs need defence more than they need a third line winger.

Everyone keeps saying upgrade defence. Who moves? Barrie fits this system well. Muzzin is a proven playoff warrior. Reilly is Reilly. That leaves Dermott and Holl who we all like. There isn't much upgrading to be done unless it's a major shakeup. What makes anyone think Brodie is miles better than Barrie? I can't stand Barrie myself but he looks good with Keefe. This is the system Barrie was born to play in. Trading him now would be a waste. Calgary also won't take a UFA back they would rather keep there own. They want to move D out not swap it.

You then want to trade Kappy when he's coming into his own playing really well for Bennet. That's a real sideways move. If anything were to be done I would suggest more of a Bracco+Ceci+ for Brodie but even then Calgary won't do it. In order to upgrade anything you need to move out Ceci.

LeafsLife nailed it. The only advantage of bringing in Bennett would be to run him at 3C if we decide to keep Kerfoot on wing. It’s a possibility, but not a realistic one.

Brodie and Hamonic are on the trade block simply because Calgary has a surplus of young defensemen that they want to get into the more important roles. They just want to get whatever return for their ufa’s they can. I imagine they will both be traded for picks to a team that can both use them and afford them. Toronto doesn’t really meet either criteria.

The leafs need a stay at home guy they will never go anywhere in the playoffs with their current style you can’t win 6-5 every game and like we have been talking about all year this team is not built for playoff hockey we are not scrappy enough.

Muzzin is as stay at home as they get and he hasn't looked the same since Keefe took over. Still good yes, but not great. Keefe system favours puck movers as all defenceman have to be able to pinch anytime they have the chance. Has anyone ever seen a RW make a stretch pass to a LHD? I hadn't before Keefe took over but that's the reality of the leafs now. That's what Keefe and Dubas both want.

I say this constantly in response to the "stay at home" defenceman comments and no one ever answers. Where does a stay at home guy fit? Only upgrade to be had is moving out Ceci and then a puck mover, Stay at home or even Sandin/ Lili are better anyway.

For one to be able to move Barrie away from Reilly that pairing in their own end is not good you need balance.

I like Keefe’s system. Basically what he is doing is making all players have to be able to play all positions. Forwards and defensemen are virtually interchangeable. They don’t let up the gas. The entire game is to outscore the opponent. End of story. It creates a lot of odd man rushes in both directions. The shot totals are 3-4x higher now than they were twenty years ago. It’s exciting. No doubt about that.
