Leafs trade Marincin
Jersey trades Vatanen

Ignore the trade. I just wanted this to be on the main page and not buried in the talk side. LEAFS JUST RE-SIGNED MARINCIN. Why would Dubas do that? I can’t understand this move at all. Any thoughts on what he was thinking?

Possibly to expose him if he gets enough games in.

That was my first thought too. Only thing is, he would have to actually play in the nhl next year. And we could have waited for the off season to re-sign him, no need to sign him now. And even better, we could have waited for the off season and signed someone who already has the games played.

This was a real head-scratcher for me. I can’t figure this one out. Any other ideas?

They only signed him for one year, so his contract expires before the expansion draft.

He signed him to 700 k though. Very easy to bury in the minors or waive and lose for nothing. I think if anything they hope to offer ceci 700 k in the off season and expose him. I think Dubas will just pay a pick and say sign Marincin from free agency. Then his core is left intact.

I don’t get it other than he’s a decent 7th d but he’s definitely blocking some of the Marlies from getting a look.

I thought they already waived him this year and nobody took him? He’s not exactly a high demand player. Lol. I think it’s a waste of cap space. Almost a million that could be used toward re-signing Barrie or any other player we need a lot more than Marincin.

Just a depth move. He may have done it because he is planning on moving someone out.

Half the defense isn’t signed past next year, so maybe he’s afraid of losing all those guys. But that’s nonsense. We can easily get a better player than Marincin for that same price.
