This is a LTIR special! Unlike other post this is just reloading some areas with players with some value vs prospects that have lost the teams faith. I do not think this is a cup winner but we could make a decent run with this team if everyone stays healthy!

Wow, geez,

I don't think goat takes that. On a team like the Islanders he gets a bit more especially considering playing time. Oddly enough I like the rest though. Coyotes may take that since they don't want hossa.

K so if Goat is the only thing that was off then I could say Bravo I got one without too much ridicule lol! That took long enough! I’m not big on Gauthier I could easily slid Spezza back into the line up for the same cost.

Don't think this improves us much but not knowing what the cap might be now with the season in jeopardy they might have to scale cap back. that said not sure i'd give Mikheyev a 3 year deal. I know he seemed to impress but so did Engvall and he slowed down. did not see much of Mikheyev due to injury. would think 1 or 2 years at 1.5mil.

Gotta agree with Loxley. I kinda think the DuClaire at 2.5 seems a bit rich too. I guarantee Dubas would never sign a 4th liner to more than league minimum.

I would re-sign Spezza. I was just reading an article about him, and while I knew he was doing pretty good, according to the article I just read, he is doing outstanding considering he doesn't play pp and usually only sees limited minutes on 3/ 4 lines. His stats per 60 are way above the average 4th liner and are more in line with a top six player. More specifically, the article compared his points per 60 to Tavares. Not that anyone in their right mind would trust old man Spezza with that many minutes in such vital roles, but the point is still valid. Spezza is absolutely one of the best bottom six players you could ask for. He was right up there with Kapanen and Johnsson and Mikheyev this year. If Leafs can re-sign him again, they absolutely should. And I'm pretty sure he would play another season hoping for his chance at the cup.

@HoundDog

I think you didn't get too much backlash because everyone has accepted the reality of LTIR trades. And you made a lot of lower level deals here. Try trading a star and you will be chirped again I'm sure. Lol.

I would rather have Spezza back over Gauthier again too if it came down to it. But Gauthier is a long term solution, while Spezza is not. We would have to find someone to plug into that 4th line spot again. Sounds easy, but it's not. There's a lot of fringe NHL players we have access to. Heck, we even got a few on the Marlies. But the difference between a fringe NHL player and a real NHL player, even a 4th liner, is quite large. That's why finding depth guys is so important, and so hard to do especially when you are the willing to pay more than league minimum. So all we can afford are the guys that are tweeners. They aren't quite good enough for NHL, but are too good for AHL. Heck, a lot of those guys are too good for the KHL even.

K so Mikheyev for another year @ 1.5 isn’t a deal breaker that said I wasn’t trying to make a big splash but the bottom 6 is looked after and our defence is a little deeper. That’s my take on the LTIR it’s not going to give us top pairing RSD but it’s one way to navigate the salary cap while filling in the blanks. Our drafting is fubar after the paying people to take our Bad contracts so it is what it is.

Engvall slowed down and he didn't. The best comparable I would say for Mikheyev is zaitsev that's what concerns me about him. Zaitsev looked good for that year then turned to rubbish.

16 Mar 2020 09:49:10
Well where do I start first off you signed Duclair then traded for him don’t know if you noticed that also teams are not paying other teams to take their ltir because it has zero impact on their cap so most of these don’t even make sense for the teams. As for the Mikheyev debate I think Dubas can’t really take the chance here with the type of injury the he suffered and possibly not seeing him play till next year i this a short term deal at like 1.5 is appropriate Mikheyev may never play the same again we must learn from the Lou deal for Zaitsev.

16 Mar 2020 14:11:46
@leafs1994 I traded for him and had to sign him because he is RFA at season end. I debated if I should put the signings after the trade to avoid that mix up. The LTIR trades are for teams that are cheap and don’t want to pay for someone sitting on the shelf. The best example of this was when we traded Clarkson for Horton. Anyway I get the Zaitsev comparison so maybe I’ll pump the brakes on Mikheyev because Zaitsev was a mistake after 1 season!

Yea I guess that makes more sense.
