As a hockey trade it seems very fair to both teams but in today's NHL the cap hit that Marner and soon what Rielly would want would put the Canucks in the same cap hell as the Leafs are in now.

Chabot got $8M. Werenski got $5M. Provorov got $6.75. So price for RFA stud defensemen seems to be scattered. Pretty big gap there between guys like McAvoy and Werenski and what Chabot got. So where do we go from here? What do we see Hughes and Makar re-signed for?

I was using OEL at comparable for Reilly, but I'm not even sure that is a fair comparable anymore. Where do we go from here for free agents, both UFA and RFA? Like is it fair if Hughes and Makar get so many ch more than what guys like Reilly, Klingberg, Jones, etc are making? It's no wonder when contracts come up for renewal the sophomores want huge raises. When the star rookies are getting paid $10M+ coming out of their elc, then an established player deserves more.

This is amazing trade both sides would love it. Marner is best player in the deal but leafs get great value and fix their cap cheers to you what a great trade offer.

That’s a trade the leafs have to make redo their salary structure. Trading one of their top 4 and Reilly who won’t be easy to resign in terms of dollars just a fantastic trade.

I'm not sure how Marner is the best player in the deal. I would actually argue Reilly and Hughes are both better at their position than Marner.

Marner might not be better than Quinn Hughes at his position, but I think Reilly is. That might change in a couple years, but as it is right now, I got to stick with Reilly > Hughes.

Of course, a non-Leafs fan might argue otherwise.

I agree Reilly probably is right now, a better D. Obviously based on age and contract it would be foolish not to take Hughes over Reilly though.

Just responding to the over-the-top love of Marner some people still have lol. Seems like people in Toronto think he really is a hall of famer right now. Good player? Yes. Top 20 overall in the world? No.

I think people are finally psyched that Leafs have a guy that is capable of getting 100 points a year. When was the last time we had a player hit 100 points? Gilmour?

I'm not sure why the huge love affair for Marner either. Great player obviously. But not irreplaceable. And he gets paid way too much compared to his peers.

Dougie and Andreychuk our last 50g 100 point guys. Mathews was on pace for 60. If anything he should be getting more credit than anyone with those numbers not Marner. I also don't see why Nylander couldn't hit 100 pts. He seems to be improving every year and could possibly hit the 40 goal or 100 point mark at far less of a cap hit.

Nylander was looking real good this year. He almost made up for last year. If we went far in playoffs and he did good, even I could almost forgive him. Almost. Lol.

If Nylander was a 30-35 goal scorer and 70-80 point player year in and year out, those numbers would be in line with Mats Sundin numbers for his career. Nylander can be the next bald swede we all love here in T. O.
