I would just sign Robin Lehner then you could use Johnsson as a trade chip for something else.

That's a good idea too MostLeaf. Only problem is that Lehner wants a big raise too. He has made it clear that he will be going to the highest bidder this year. He will not take another short term low paying deal. He has nothing left to prove. I can't blame him, can you? Lehner is going to cost at least as much as Andersen. So may as well just keep Andersen then. I think Leafs1994 strategy is to find a guy that is cheaper and younger. Lehner doesn't really match either qualification.

I like this strategy Leafs1994. And Chicago is definitely a team that can use a good starting goalie. You nailed it there. I can see both these deals happening. I think the value is fair, and team needs are all met. It almost makes too much sense. In fact, it makes so much sense that we probably won't ever see something like this happen.

Signing a UFA is the best way to guarentee you overpay on contracts. I would prefer a trade but if lehner was signed to a decent deal that's a plan too.

We would have to make the Pittsburgh deal first.

I'm not sure we would get a roster player for Andersen either since he's on his last year. But we would probably get a pick. And we would have to take a cap dump back because Chicago is tight against the cap. So maybe something like Saad + 3rd is more realistic. But the idea is still a good one. It's a smart strategy.
