I think this makes a lot of sense for both teams. we get our 1st back and cap space, and Carolina gets a solid young top 9 rw. Some guys on the main site though this was not fair though lol.

I wouldn't do this from the Leafs point of view either. You need a replacement for Kappy especially on the PK.

I heard recently that Dubas almost got Ekblad for Kapanen. Now if that had happened, even I might have been drinking Dubas' wine right now. But it didn't. And while I like Kapanen a lot, I do realize the importance of having to lose his cap hit. He will bring the largest return of between KJK. Carolina has liked him for a while, and if we traded him there, we can probably get a better return than just a 1st. I would press hard for one of either Bean or Fleury thrown in as well, preferably Bean.

There is no way Dubas almost got Ekblad for Kappy, but you brought up some good points, LGM. If Kappy is traded it will be for a defence man. Kappy plus for a first and Bean would be very good.

I read that as well. That would have me drinking the Kool aid on Dubas as well. That would be a sports center top 50 worst trades ever for FLA.

That would have been a top 50 worst trades of all time, not just for Florida. If any gm in the league is capable of so seriously undervaluing his own players, it would be Tallon. Just look at some of the deals he's made. Heck, he even let Trocheck go for a sack of potatoes this year.

It was an older rumor from a few years ago. I tried to look for a definitive link, but couldn't. You can still find references to the rumor on hockey forum boards and a few other sites.

Apparently Panthers were losing patience with Ekblad, and felt that they needed offensive help. I believe this was before they landed Hoffman.

Oh and the leafs had a trade in place for Phil Esposito and Gerry cheevers years ago as well.
I can’t find the link but I know it existed.

We gave Cheevers to Boston. Lol. Task isn't the first time we helped them out like that. Leafs don't learn from their own history much do they?
