Leafs trade Hyman
Calgary trades Neal

At first it seems like Calgary wins this deal. But then we remember that Hyman is a UFA next year and we might not be able to sign him. So we trade him for Neal, who doesn't have that bad of a contract and who is still productive. He did a lot better in Edmonton this year than that horrible year in Calgary for him. If he doesn't do well, we expose him for Seattle.

Agree0 Disagree1

Not a trade the Leafs should do.

Isn’t Neal in Edmonton and I wouldn’t do this deal I’d rather keep our top pk guy and if we can’t afford him it’s less impactful if he walks then compared to now Neal hasn’t been good since he was the top dog in Vegas.

Not a chance. This is very very bad for toronto. Neal is not good.

And Neal plays for edmonton by the way.

I know he plays in Edmonton. If you read the bottom of the post I have it right. Just had a brain fart at the beginning. Lol.

I knew nobody would like this deal. They can't all be winners. Lol. The only reason I suggest something along these lines is because I'm sick of seeing the Leafs let their valuable UFA's walk for free. It's terrible asset management, and I'm not the only one on the internet that thinks so. Neal is a bit of a step down for sure, but he is a good player and he is signed for multiple years. And if EDMONTON retained $1M in salary, he would be reasonably priced. And if he doesn't work out, we expose him for Seattle. Otherwise there is a good chance we lose Hyman to free agency next year for nothing. At least this way, we can try to get something back in return. Even if not Neal, there are other players we can think of that might work. Jenner, Aarvidson, etc.

Yea I’d probably take a pick prospect over Neal tbh.

21 May 2020 21:41:31
If we only trade him for a pick/ prospect, we may as well use him for our own rental. That's what rebuilding teams do is trade UFA's for futures. I was thinking we could try to parlay him into somebody more immediately useful who can contribute right away.

I'm not a fan of letting UFA walk either but it's a reality we have to face if a c up is the goal. You can't just trade rentals every year unless you don't believe your team wins it all. Case in point I would have had a massive sell off this year as Dubas.

Hyman is never leaving.

21 May 2020 22:50:37
I wish Leafguy. But He is a free agent next year, so he might leave if toronto doesn't make him a proriety.

I agree, Leafs don't have a contending team this year. Dubas pretty much admitted as much when he didn't acquire anyone at the deadline. So if he didn't think the team was good enough to add a player or two to gives us a boost for the playoffs, then why not openly admit it and trade a few of those valuable UFA's away. Barrie was the top defensive see. an UFA this year. He would have brought in a fair amount. Hard to say though, given that defensemen went so cheap this year. But he should have got us at least a 1st. But after seeing what Pageau, Coleman, and a couple other guys went for you front, Leafs should have thought about trading Kapanen or Kerfoot or one of our other wingers. It would have been a real jackpot, and a y of those guys are pretty much replaceable still at this point.
