Just a thought pulock is a solid rhd and young at age 25 islanders get a good rhd prospect to replace old man mquaid and kappy or Johnson helps boost their offense.

I wouldn't include Liljegren. NYI have Dobson and Wilde already anyway. He would actually have a better chance with us. I think Islanders are weak LHD though. They have Toews, but he's really the best they have. Leddy hasn't been all that impressive lately. Maybe instead of Liljegren they could take Dermott and throw us a pick to balance or something like that.
I like the idea though. It's a straightforward no nonsense makes a helluva lot of sense trade. And I would love to see Dubas do something like this.

I don't think pulock will be affordable. Dubas has himself a serious mess right now. So much of what saved him this year was LTIR. that's all disappearing now. I don't see any big name signings or trades even ones like this unless a large contract moves out.

I know he needs an extension and I’m aware dubas is a pussy when it comes to negotiations could we sign pulock imo under 5m per year.

Dubas biggest issue is how much he gave out already. Anyone looking at those deals will be thinking "I'm almost as good as Marner why can't I get 9m? "

NHL salaries in average right now tend toward about $1M per 10 points. So using that standard, and using Marners best season at just over 90 points, then Marner is at least $2.5M-$3M overpay. Using a comparison to peers though, it would seem that he could be even more overpaid, as some of his comparable players signed for less than $8M.
How Dubas thinks he can explain to someone that they deserve only $5M for scoring 25-30 goals and 60-70 points (I'm thinking Hyman here) while Marner earns over twice that is beyond me. And how does he expect to sign any free agents knowing, and he absolutely has to know, that anyone sitting down across the table from him is going to throw those MMT deals in his face.
Just because a player is elite doesn't mean we should overpay for him. And just because a player is not elite doesn't mean we should earn league minimum. Dubas' doesn't think a middle class exists in hockey. It's either you're a star or you're a bust. How much resentment is on the team right now as everyone else is getting paid cheap while the Fantastic Four are receiving all the rewards? I have a feeling that the skew in salaries is going to create some bad blood in the dressing room.

The bad blood is already there I'm sure. Reilly is the rightful captain and was passed over now will be asked to take a discount. No way he stays.

Maybe the reason Dubas didn't name Reilly captain is because he didn't think he could re-sign him?
