Leafs sign Brodie 5x$5.5M

Leafs trade Kapanen
Anaheim trade Lundestrom

I'm making the call right now that Leafs absolutely sign Brodie this offseason. He was the original target of the Kadri trade before Kadri shot it down. And since Dubas' doesn't do rental deals, the intention was to sign him to an extension. This can still be done, but Leafs have to dump cap space. In order to do that, they need to trade someone, and that someone is going to be Kapanen. I choose Anaheim because they are frequent trading partners and Lundestrom is a pretty good prospect at center that they might be willing to let go since they are still pretty strong up the middle and still have superstar in the making Zegras ahead of him too. It might not be Anaheim, but Kapanen goes for picks/ prospects somewhere

You heard it hear first folks. Maybe not from me first. But on this site first. Well maybe not that even. Does t matter. Because I'm staking claim.

These two things I am extremely confident will happen:

1. Brodie signs
2. Kapanen gets traded (for futures)

I would bet if I could. But tell you what instead of a bet, if I am wrong on either of these two things, I will tell RedWing that Parayko really is a better defenseman than Reilly. And I'll even make it sound like I believe it. Lol.

Leafs don’t need another LHD we have way too many as it is. He can play the right side but really isn’t the kind of dman we even need.
I hope we can move out Johnsson and Kapanen this summer to free up cap and roster spots for players that deserve it.

I wouldn't move Kapanen happily. He really showed some heart before the break and he's good enough to play top 6 if need be. I would move Kerfoot and Johnson before kappy.

@leafslife

Ur my new favourite person I couldn’t agree more with you.

I hope Kappy's "heart" is a real thing and does come back in the playoffs and next year. worried that he only stepped up his game due to all the rumors that were going around about all the trades Dubas could do because of all the LTIR space we had. so here's hopin' it was not smoke and mirrors on his part and that his game has actually grown.

I agree loxley. I just wouldn't want to see him moved yet.

I agree as well it seems when kappy popped up on the rumour mill as a potential trade bait he had a lot more jump in his game he’s a grinder yet he scores (he hits a lot has a little fire under his ass) I think we need to keep him at all costs although I am aware of how much value he could have to another team I think he has a great role in Toronto I would love to see him play up with Tavares and marner.

I thought they tried him LW beside Tavares and Marner at the beginning of the season while Hyman was hurt did they not? And he blew it.

Kapanen is a good player, but he is not a great player. He's limited to the right side and seems to work best in a somewhat sheltered role. Of the three JKK, I like Kapanen the best too and hope we keep him. But I assume everyone in the league likes Kapanen best too. We all know Carolina and Edmonton do. It's because he is a good player that the demand will be there is the reason I expect him to get traded. The return will be much better.

@BigWilly

I know Brodie is LHD, but he plays RHD, same as Hainsey did. I don't think Leafs are too concerned about whether or not he is a natural righty, only if he can play RHD. Look at it this way, we have needed a top line RHD for years. But last year we brought in Muzzin, a lefty. And we signed Lehtonen, a other lefty. I think Leafs are more interested in someone who can just play the right side over actual handedness and it seems to show that in their most recent trades. Even the talk of moving Dermott to the right shows that Leafs value skill more than handedness.
