Leafs trade Hyman
Philly trades Niskanen

Same as my trade below for Larsson. Except for Niskanen. Much the same reasons as why I suggested for Larsson.

Instead of posting a third trade, I will also suggest that Hyman for Brodin would make a good trade (Brodin is widely considered the best defensive defenseman in the game), but Brodin is LHD, so not sure if that would be suitable.

Oh. And Hyman for David Savard too. That would be another good one.

Ya Niskanen is a bit better then Savard and Larsson imo. I would be fine doing a UFA for UFA trade in this situation. Again though I would prefer someone younger like Phillipe Myers.

You seem to think that teams will trade a proven young player under control for many years for a pending UFA. Teams don't do that (unless your the Leafs) . Best we get for Hyman is picks and prospects.

Bear and Myers are both proven players. The Nurse/ Bear line was made top line after injury. Larssons numbers are excellent across the board in all categories. Yes, he is still a 1RHD.

I would rather have Bear and Myers too. But to get them, we have to give up a little more. Bear and Myers fall under the category of young controlled defenseman with upside. Those guys only get traded for other young controlled players with upside (Drouin for Sergachev orNylander for Jokiharju type deals) .

You're right though. Larssons numbers did take a hit this year. Especially his advanced numbers. Could be a sign of a downward trend. Or could be because he was injured and wasn't playing with Klefbom most of the season.

Either way, even if Larsson is not the guy, it's guys like that is all we can expect for hyman as far as roster players go. UFA for UFA. Edmonton is not rebuilding so they might do it if they want another forward next year instead of Larsson

Savard is the better choice for sure. Just don't think Columbus wants to trade a defenseman. They are the most important players on their team.

I like the idea of getting Brodin. but we already have a clog of guys on the left. what if we expanded the deal for something like this:

Leafs trade:
Nylander
Rielly
Dermott

Wild trade:
Brodin
Dumba
Donato
1st round pick 2020

we could pair Muzzin with Dumba and have an offense/ defense pairing or leave Muzzin and Hol as top line with Brodin and Dumba as 2nd pairing. Donato can play RW on 2nd or 3rd line. Wild get a left and right d. and the centre they are looking for. Dumba signed for a few years so leafs only have to re-sign Brodin who replaces Reilly who will need new contract.

Not Nylander, no. Too much for pending UFA Brodin. And too much for Dumba, who hasn't bounced back after injury. If we are trading for Brodin, has to be Hyman. Pending UFA for pending UFA.

Rielly = Brodin + Donato
Nylander + Dermott >>> Dumba + 1st.

Although Loxley, your trade does have its appeal. It would transform our defense from an offense first type defense to an actual defense first defense.

Hockeyluvr. i did not mention in my trade proposal an extension with Brodin who have to be reached. dunno if this turns us into a defensive team more than offense. gives us a good balance i think. Muzzin, Brodin and Holl as defensive. and Dumba who has offense along with Sandin and Liljegren for offense. i think the extra defense on defense will help balance out the offense that does not like to play defense. not sure why everyone is so concerned with Dumba's injury. will be watching him closely these playoff games.

That's an interesting one loxley. It really changes the team into a defensive powerhouse on the back end. I might be convinced to do this even though I wouldn't like losing Dermott and Nylander.

Sign of a fair trade is I'm not sure whether to love or hate it lol.

hey LeafsLife. glad i have ya confused on liking or hating it. i also see a lot in Dermott but with this deal we would have 2 solid LD in Muzzin and Brodin. Dermott would be perfect as 3ed pair LD but i think we'd have to send something else back and that means Sandin is not on roster or is scratched in and out of lineup.

Depending on what the extension was for Brodin, then it's a lot more appealing, yes.

Brodin doesn't play a style game that will become drastically less effective after he gets past 30. He doesn't rely on speed or offense. He relies on positioning and defense. Guys like that can usually stick around at an elite level longer. I would be comfortable offering him a five year deal. He's younger than Muzzin, who we just gave five years to. Chances are that Brodin's contract will look better by the end of it than Muzzin's will.

that's what i was thinking Hockeyluvr.5 years for Brodin at something similar to what Muzzin got. he is already paired with Dumba so they have chemistry so we leave Holl with Muzzin. makes us better defensively. now to fix the issues with the poor forwards that can't get more than 6 shots combined. pathetic. that is what 40 million get ya.
