Tor drafts Byfield C 1st overall. I realize that Laf is the consensus number 1 but I prefer a defenceman or Center st this point and since Byfield a close second that's my choice. Plus can anyone else smell the Yakupov brewing on the stove? Anywho on to the signings and trades!

If we want Byfeild we can trade down and get Roy+ from LA so we don’t look like dumbasses.

Also no chance the leafs pass on Laf if they get the chance to draft him.

What makes you think LA will add anything to draft Lafrenniere over Byfield? They absolutely need a stud centre.

At this point Lafrenniere and Byfield are a bit of a wash. They both have about as much chance as turning out as stars or busts. Personally, I prefer big stud centres myself. Especially when we already have good winger depth and Matthews might be gone in four years

Three years with Byfield on elc takes us right to the remaining year on Matthews contract. We turn around and trade him just before we have to give Byfield his extension. If Byfield doesn't work out. Well, guess we bite the bullet and give Matthews whatever he wants. Because we won't have a choice.

By drafting Byfield it would at least give us a possible option in three years.

I wouldn't do either. Given the chance I would take 3 and 5 if at all possible. Or look for a roster player in exchange.
