The Leafs will pick a player with their 1st round pick. The only reason to trade it would be to improve RHD. However, with Pietrangelo potentially being available but not known til likely after the draft my guess is the Leafs will pick.

However, I feel Andersen will be dealt

To OTT: G - F. Andersen

To TOR: 2020 2nd round pick

Ottawa gets a starting goalie for $1M who they can choose to sign or trade later

Agree1 Disagree1

Since OTT 2nd is 33rd overall, I could see it if Toronto has a goalie in mind and wants to open the cap space for it.

Why? Why does Ottawa want a goalie who is to old for the rebuild?

I guess it depends if they feel they can compete wkth ths 3rd and 5th pick in the lineup.

Ottawa has 7 picks in the first two rounds. They need to reach the cap floor and Anderson only costs them $1M in real money. It would give them a chance to develop their younger goalies without throwing them into the fire. They could also flip Anderson at the TDL and probably re-coup the 2nd.

Yes agreed, it's to help them hit the floor and pay less money. I also believe the Sens will move on draft day and use 1 of their 1st's on Ashkarov.

They won't give a second for the chance to hit cap floor. If that's all they want they take on a cap dump in exchange for gaining a pick. Teams don't line up to do Dubas favors ordinarily. You can't expect it.

Marleau was owed almost nothing in really money. Why didn't Dubas just just trade him to a team trying to make cap floor? Would have received a 1st for him right?

Anderson is by no means the anchor that Marleau was to a team. Anderson is still a very good number 1 goalie. His value is easily a 2nd. Marleau was not traded during the current economic situation either. The other reasons Ottawa may make the deal on top of cap floor were already given. It has nothing to do with doing the Leafs a favour, they get a proven number 1 that they might be able to flip later for more than it cost to acquire and only costs them $1M or less in real money to do it.

They will just sign a bunch of UFA’s to one year deals and load up on insured LTIR again is my guess.

Last i checked they only had seven forwards signed. Seven. They will start there with contracts to hit cap floor.

Anderson is good but is not worth a second to a rebuilding team. I don't think people look at how the other team sees it. They won't want to resign a guy who's 30+ and they don't need a rental. They need the pick more.

I am not saying Ott will do it, but when you have 3 1sts and 4 2nds this draft, moving one 2nd for a true#1 goalie which helps your young defence grow and let them play with more confidence, is not a bad move for Ott. Add to that Melnik only has to pay him max $1M, less if they move him at the TDL, and it would make a lot of sense for Ott to consider it.

Ottawa has 4 2nds, i honestly don't expect them to draft that many players. And using a middle/ bottom 2nd is fair value.
