Did Buffalo qualify Montour? I did a quick search before responding and didn’t see anything. If they don’t qualify him, we don’t need to trade anything for him. We just need to sign him tomorrow.

Montour is the type of player Dubas likes. Skilled, speedy, offensive. A couple years ago, I thought he was going to be a huge success. So did Buffalo apparently since they gave up a 1st plus Guhle. Huge steal for Anaheim. Would he be better on the Leafs? Probably a lesser version of Barrie or Gardiner. If that’s who you want on the team, then why not sign him?

If Montour is cheap enough I don't see an issue. He isn't worth Johnson though.

If Barrie was signed as a 3rd pairing guy at 2m and ran the second PP I wouldn't have an issue either. I think people forget that Montour is exactly the same though. His defence isn't the best.

One thing to note though, I do think he can hit a form Barrie cannot.

Johnson isn’t worth anything really. 1 good season and 2 injured season.

The problem is I think to qualify him it’s like 3.75 and he has arb rights to me he’s not good enough to be paying more for.

Do you think they should take a chance on him at $2M?

I'm not sure where he would fit though. He's just not a 1RHD, and Leafs have Lehtonen and Liljegren for the 3RHD spot. Most analysts I read though say that Leafs need two RHD this year though. So it could make some sense I guess. Depends on what other moves Dubas has up his sleeve.
