Love the Nashville deal

For leafs
11.1 cap in
13.1 cap out

2 million cap saved plus get nice young rhd ready to play with muzzin. Could be next Makar or could be next Barrie. Either way being behind Ellis and fact Nashville is all about defence first fabbro won’t be able to show his offensive flair with the preds. On Toronto Keefe will let him do what he does and defence won’t be relied upon him much like Makar in colorado.

Without Calgary deal Forsberg replaces marner and ardvidsson joins kerfoot and vesey making this one lethal line. Simmonds goes to 4th line but gets 2nd pp unit time.

If Nashville deal goes through I’d prefer to just keep Hyman

For Nashville
14.1cap in
11.1 cap out

3 million cap added to team not having cap issues. Holl makes solid bottom pair dman to this Nashville d first mentality. Engvall suits Nashville style
Dushene finally gets a setup man he had never had anywhere since coming to nhl. Nashville only pays 35 over 5 in real money for marner and being a non cap strapped team real money becomes the big deal and this deal saves them plenty

Awesome trade awesome trade.

I like the Nashville deal. Although, if we could keep Holl and switch Fabbro for Ingram, that would be even better. imo.

I'm really not sold on Holl. He had one mediocre year beside Muzzin. How much is he actually worth?

LL. I think Holl is a good complimentary for or a solid 5. I would just rather keep him and let them keep Fabbro if we could get Ingram. It was more about Ingram.

I don't think Holl is a bad player but am I the only one that noticed Holl without Muzzin? I don't think Holl is as good as Dubas assumes. Same for Engvall. Someone does alright for a very short period so they get a contract.

I'm not sold that Muzzin-Lehtonen or Muzzin-Dermott does worse than Holl. I would even throw out there, that I have more faith in Muzzin with both they players as a mentor on the ice as well as an anchor on the blue line.

LL. I agree. Holl is a good 5. Works well with a vet like Muzzin who's is a solid 2 or a very good 3. Dermott may end up a very good 4.

Signing Engvall in the middle of his hot streak is a very questionable move indeed. I like both Engvall and Holl, but is Holl a “true” top 4 defenseman? No. Is Engvall worth more than league minimum? No. Engvall is likely to be waived and dropped to the AHL to start the year (according to CapFriendly he will) . He will still be receiving his $1.25M. Which means he will be making more to play in the AHL than someone like, say, Vesey makes playing in the NHL. Does that make sense to you? It doesn’t to me.

Either Engvall is the better player, in which case he should be playing ahead of Vesey, or Dubas overpaid an AHL level player, somewhat significantly I might add. Which one is it?

A 5-6 seems to me like where he should be as well RLF. But I wasn't against keeping Ceci for that reason either if he was cheaper than Holl. We all vilified Ceci but playing beside Reilly is very different than playing beside Muzzin.

I don't think either signing was a good one.

Engvall has 15 games remaining before he becomes waiver eligible, so he obviously is the odd man out to start the season. But what happens half-way through and he has his 15 games in, and Dubas is playing the cap juggling game? Then we will be forced to waive someone. Boyd or Vesey maybe? Hopefully by that point we have a good idea how the team is performing and the free agents we signed are doing, so it would make the choice much easier.

Due to how the buried contracts work cap wise engvall was only one that makes sense to use for this. I was fine with engvall kerfoot simmonds line but vesey kinda messed with that. I know leafs and all teams need depth but 1.25 million dollar players should be regulars and depth players sign under 1 million

Dubas even messed this up. Leafs may end up losing 3-4 guys through waivers so what was point

Coulda of just signed simmonds then use what’s in system to cover 4th line instead of all that newspaper radio talk show ratings signings.
