Even after Shaws LTIR contract leaves Chicago they still have 22.4 million in LTIR. Insane. Chicago can afford trading 1 to get a goalie and Shaw would agree to cone hone anyways. Teows seabrook smith can't be dealt but Shaw with his permission can.

Leafs save .457 in space and pay rest of shaws salary this year as it hasn't been deemed I insurance yet and pay his non insurance 1 million bonus next year. If he retires(most likely)his 1.9 salary owed is insurable but leafs get to use his 3.9 lTIR this and next year.

Leafs gain a better D who can move up and down d lineup on either side.

Leafs get subban who is a backup at best

Chicago gets a starter as I hardly doubt the Finnish goalie will keep up this pace

Dermott is downgrade on D but good enough for bottom pairing

They could now deal kerfoot 2022 1st 2021 2nd abramov rubins and whatever goalie not named Campbell plus whatever other prospect or picks it may take to Anaheim for that guy named Gibson. with shaws LTIR fit him in pretty nicely with 700k to spare plus have wiggle room next year knowing you have that LTIR contract. Plus good luck playing this D now. Much better overall. If somehow Shaw makes a remarkable recovery in time for playoff (doubt it) his cap hit don’t count at playoff time. He gets some reps with marlies in rd 1 for them then ready for round 2 with leafs. Believe me there will be a round 2 now. If Shaw never plays again it’s sad but hockey.
Gibson and Campbell are 1 year apart and have had healthy competition since they were teens with US then again Windsor/ Sau vs Kitchener

We desperately need tougher players if we want to go all the west. Teams like Calgary, Vancouver and we all know Boston are hard hitting teams we need players to protect Matthews, Marner, Nylander cause Tavares is surely not doing and until Simmons is back we need that type of strength don’t worry so much about goal keeping we need to protect our goal scorers more!
