Ducks trade Gibson

Last year until UFA and he can walk, a 1st and Liljegren would get them listening for sure.

Andersen defeats the purpose of trading Gibson. If they are trading Gibson for futures, they are in full rebuild. Andersen becomes a cap dump they take on, but he could help them win games which they would not want. I think you have to add fairly significantly if you want them to take Andersen.

Hense why you deal him to a contending team without a goalie with proven record of any kind (Chicago, Washington, Minnesota) to be security in case any of those teams rookie go through a slump which is very likely.

Then go get Gibson

Funny how my idea looked stupid to most but now you see why it’s got to go this way

Non contending teams won’t want him and only these 3 contending teams could use them if they don’t feel comfortable with their youngsters just yet.

Andersen for 4th rd (probably best you’ll get for any contending team backup plan if youngster slumps)

Then deal what it will take without hurting core to get Gibson.

@Craigger. i never thought your idea was stupid. it was just imcomplete that first time. lol. i agree about getting Gibson or some other top goalie. but have to place Freddy somewhere. i just dunno that Ducks want to get rid of him. i was thinking the other day. when leafs have been in the playoffs from all the good teams i have seen they always had a great goalie i did not have to worry about. Cujo. Belfour. Potvin. Fuhr and even Wregget. it's been a long time since this team focused on the crease and i wonder why that is?

In all fairness Craigger, I posted a trade of Andersen to Chicago where we only take back a 3rd and a prospect noting they have tons of LTIR space to do this and may want Andersen for a playoff run to support what Kane has done this year. I also said we then use the $5M in new cap space to go after Gibson for instance. This was a couple of days before your idea. You had even commented on mine that they need to add Subban in the return.

Your trade idea had us getting no new cap space at all, players we don't need and taking on LTIR. It also didn't mention now going after Gibson or whomever which is why it took scrutiny from me and others.

I’ll admit, my idea did look stupid. Any deal involving goalie swaps and multiple teams will look stupid.

Maybe pull the whole lehner thing. Trade him to a secondary team with cap space so that team can take part of his cap for a pick and send him to another team

It all looks stupid but in the end no matter how it’s done it gets the job done something Andersen hasn’t and can’t get done while being a leaf.

It's not that it looks stupid, it is just really unlikely and hard to pull off. Considering the idea had already been posted on here and explained why and how it could be done, including the part about Chicago's LTIR room and that they may want a goalie, to say most on here don't have the foresight to see what you were really doing was an odd statement considering you got the idea off of here yourself. lol.
