So the Flames are pretty much done. They can't score, they have run with the same core for a while and this year seems to be slipping away. They should have traded Bennett earlier as all they have done is reduce his value. They have pending UFA's they should move. Leafs would be better served to have a healthy Vet goalie in the fold for a playoff run than a banged up Andersen and a banged up Campbell. imo

Calgary getting Kerfoot helps with speed and Kerfoot is a 30+ pt guy who can play up and down their lineup. He has cost certainty unlike Bennett. Andersen can be let rest for a week and moved at the deadline for whatever return they can get. At 50% retained by the Leafs, they should be able to move him pretty easily. Brooks gives them another player that has shown he can produce at lower levels. Rittich is a pending UFA as well who likely wouldn't be returning. They start moving toward next season.

The Leafs pick up a project in Bennett and more solidify their goalie tandem. Rittich seems healthy so if Campbell does reaggravate his injury, we have a true backup ready. Bennett will add some sandpaper to the bottom 6 and a new start may be what he needs. Kerfoot was likely being moved or exposed at the draft anyway and I doubt they were re-signing Freddie. Maybe Rittich becomes the back up next season and if Bennett works out, deal with that later, otherwise expose him at the draft as an RFA. When all is said and done, worst case scenario, the Leafs are down Brooks with nothing to show for it next season.

I think the Bennett ship has sailed on a team that has had ups and downs a guy like Bennett has not factored into turning things around as for the goalies it makes little sense for either team i honestly don’t see an upgrade in net best case is that either Campbell takes over then net and continue what he’s been doing or he plays good and Freddy gets healthy and comes back and plays better.

Love Bennett but he might be worth a 2nd right now. Anderson deserves a chance to redeem himself.

Would Sutter want a player like Kerfoot on his team instead of a guy like Bennett?

The coaching change has made new opportunities available to players that were not there before. Lucic is getting almost four minutes a night more now that Sutter is coach.

Bennett might find himself in a new situation that he likes.

That said, if Calgary wanted to trade Bennett for Kerfoot, that’s an easy yes.

@HL. Just my personal feeling, but I think Bennett is done in Calgary. Sutter played him a bit more for the first couple of games and then reduced his ice until the Leafs series. They should have traded him when they had offers before. At this point, with their cap issue, I am not even sure if they qualify him this off-season. He is a Sutter type of guy, but he is losing his game more and more and badly needs a change of scenery before he ends up a 4th line grinder the rest of his career. Way too many coaching changes etc in Calgary and it has taken it's toll on the whole team. They need big changes and Treliving should be taking some heat on this as he has been in charge through all of these coaching etc decisions for the past 7 years.
