Would definitely add another Centre or winger don’t think Brooks is ready for a 3rd line role.

All very interesting and worth considering.
Do we need Smith now that Simmonds is re-signed or will he turn into what Simmonds used to be?
Also while Killorn is a playoff monster he is 32 and much more expensive. I’m also still positive on what Mikheyev has. Think he played more LW in his first year. Is he more effective on that side?

@T33. Brooks doesn't need to be 3C. There is Matthews, Tavares, McLeod, Spezza and Brooks as C's. Move Tavares back to 2C and McLeod 3C. I preferred the superline and then 3 tough to play against lines. Just my preference. Another winger capable of scoring was on my wish list for sure.

@Rsears. I like that 4th line. Give them mostly O-zone/ O side neutral zone faceoffs and let them go to work on wearing down people. Teams will think twice about talking runs at guys with Simmonds and Smith in the lineup. A little old school, yes. But old school still wins in the playoffs. Killorn is also for AC experience and he knows how to elevate his game come playoff time. Still effective at 32. I like Mikheyev, but I would build for now more than the future because who knows how many more years Matthews will be here or what he will cost if he is willing to re-sign. Cheap goaltending and D in this lineup isn't going to last forever either.

It's just what I would like to build. I still think you need a combination of skill and also big, heavy forwards up front. Able to defend and play physical on the backend and if you have both of those, solid goaltending should be good enough.

Simmonds is a good signing, another dismal Leaf playoff exit next year will ensure new management, new coach and complete roster overhaul. Then at that time with Mathhews having only 2 years left on his contract, they can trade him to Arizona.

Taking killorn is the stupidest idea ever for micky. Sure, ets help free up 3m in cash for Tampa. Hard no on that.

30 Jun 2021 18:44:03
@Hrenklin If you don't like guys who have already won a Cup, that play a heavy game and elevate it come playoff time, then yes, by all means keep Mikheyev over Killorn.

I think Mikheyev plus a 2.75 million player is worth more than killorn. Killorn is good no doubt but leafs can use any extra money they can find and killorn hinders this.

If it was only Mikheyev for Killorn and none of the other deals are made, than I would agree with you guys. In this case I built in $10M of cap space when all I done, so Killorn's extra cost for two years is no big deal. I'm Looking at the big picture when all is said and done, not each trade on its own.
