The one thing the Islander's could really use is a top offensive defenseman. They have some cap space, but need to re-sign Beuavillier, Pelech and Sorokin.

NYI increase their D-core by adding a more offensive minded top pair D-man. They have the cap space to try and extend him as thye have a few contracts on older players ending after this season. They can now put the rest of their cap space toward locking up Beauvillier and Sorokin with lots of cap space left.

Tor picks up a more cost controlled Big minute LD that should not cost anywhere near what Rielly may ask for to keep. He is more physical and defensive D-man than Rielly. Bailey gives the Leafs a legitimate top 6 LW on a decent cap hit. He has played with JT before and always puts up points in the playoffs. Should still have 4-5M left to fill out the roster.

I read somewhere that Pelech is looking for around 7M AAV on his next deal. We simply cannot afford that.

@ALF. If that is true, I think he finds himself sitting out without a contract.
I see Pelech at 3-4 years for about $4.5M per and 6-8 years at as much as in the $5.5M per range. If he wants more, I think he is going to be extremely disappointed. He averages 15-20 pts per season and pts getters get paid. When your best season is 21 pts and your 26 years old, your not getting $7M, or at least you shouldn't even be close to that. He's from Toronto, he would have a chance to come home and play in front of family and friends. $4.5-$5.5 should be top dollar.

I figured out where I saw it. NHL Collection has Pelech asking $7m and Cizikas asking $5m on their next deals respectively.

After I wrote me response, I looked into any discussions about what he is expected to get. I didn't see anything around $7M. A lot of talk about 4X$4M and some long term with nothing higher than $6M, but most in the $5-$5.5 range. Pretty much what I was saying. I could be wrong for sure, but if these are the more accurate numbers, he is affordable for us.

Saw it on Instagram yes, not sure if it is true or not. If Pelech is around 5M AAV I would be really interested.
