Tor : lyubushkin 1.35 cap hit, 27 years old
Arizona: MIKHEYEV 1.645 cap hit, 25 years old and a 5th next year.

Leafs get a #6 rhd that can kill penalties

Arizona gets a top 9 lw that wants a bigger opportunity then he'll get here and it makes room for some of Arizona's younger d such as capobianco And Timmins.

Leafs open a bit of cap room for maybe a hosang contract as well.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why is a 6th d worth more than micheyev.

Good question Randy - my thinking is because it’s worth it to address the teams needs. Leafs really need a rhd than can kill penalties.

Lyubushkin would be a #6 d for us and he can move up and down the line up as he’s played with OEL before in Arizona.

So a bottom 6 lw for a bottom pair dmen.

Leafs add a late pick to Arizona as a sweetener to do the deed which helps their rebuild too.

Just my thoughts anyways.

Excellent trade. Leafs have more forwards than D

Mikheyev is with the emergence of bunting.

As far a s I know Lybushkin wasn't really used as a PK in Arizona. He has 26 mins of PK time over 134 NHL games. He is also a UFA end of season like Mikheyev. Personally, if I am trading Mikheyev for a pending UFA 3rd pair physical D, I want one that I know is good at the PK.
Mik makes almost $2.2 in real money this year, so not sure ARZ will take on the extra cash. As for value, Arizona should have to add, not the Leafs. imo.

Come to think of it, how about Engvall for Lybushkin. ARZ gets a pending RFA for a pending UFA and saves $100 grand in real money.

Fair concerns on the PK issue RLF.

I believe he was a big part of the PK in the KHL and pitches in on the PK on the yotes (I’m not 100% sure . because who watches Arizona play, ammirite? )

I went and did some digging and here’s what his KHL coach said about him

“He’s cut out for the NHL game because he’s very physical, he finishes checks, he’s a really good penalty killer, he blocks shots and he pays the price to play, ” King said.

Lyibushkin’s only real value are his physicality and shot blocking, both of which have value to the Leafs. He’s also RD.
He has no offensive ability and has generally been a 3rd pairing, even in KHL.
I would not trade Mikheyev either. perhaps Engvall.
But I would rather have Connor Timmons from Arizona!

HymanFC. Fair enough. But when he has rarely done it for 3 seasons in the NHL, I would want more back if they are getting Mikheyev. I think people are writing Mikheyev off too early. He had a good start to his career just a year ago before getting hurt. He didn't shoot as much last year and we all know his sh% was low. He could be a guy we let go and then regret it. Especially if it is for a low return.

@RLF I completely agree, we also need forwards to play the pk which micheyev does well. We already lost Hyman drop micheyev and what does our pk look like beyond kerfoot kampf and marner?

Engvall goes to waivers.

30 Sep 2021 19:18:56
@JdB. You don't think if ARZ traded for Engvall that he won't make the team? I think they waive Boyd or OBrien before Engvall.

30 Sep 2021 23:02:49
Leafs waive Engvall don’t deal him

Arizona he would make but who picks him up is anyone’s guess.
