Getting cap space allows a team to players in the spring when needs are identified.

Not all adds pay off. Last year it didn’t! But it’s good to be in that position.

So what about sending Rielly and Kerfoot to Dallas for Klingberg and Hintz. Leafs save $1.1m and might be better off.

Think Leafs need to add a prospect. One of N. Abruzzese, P. Holmberg or R. Hirvonen is fine with me.

Does this make us better?

I think Dallas passes. Imo-Last thing Dallas needs is to move an RD for an LD. Hintz has improved every year and for a young guy, he has already shown he shows up in the playoffs. Hintz is also an RFA at the end of his deal. Can't see Dallas doing this even if we throw in a prospect.

I think you are undervaluing Rielly as top end top pairing Dman.

T-buds. Has nothing to do with how good Rielly is. They don't need him and Kerfoot enough that makes it worth losing Klingberg and Hintz.

The deal is fine. Both kerfoot and hintz are similar in playing and have 2 years left. differance is hintz an RFA kerfoot is not when 2 year are up plus kerfoot is .35 more

Rielly for klingberg is fine as well. Both offensive Dmen with defensive lapse. One right one left. Both UFA at end of year. Rielly is 2 years younger and in my opinion a tad better but is paid .75 more.

Dallas adds 1.1 to an already over cap hit but have bishop covering that overage right now

Unfortunately his lTIR comes up 200 grand short if this deal happened. So Dallas says no unless leafs cover 20” grand minimum on rielly which wouldn’t be a huge deal .

So I guess with that retain leafs still save 900k so it might be something to consider.

Klingberg and Rielly are comparable but Klingberg is cheaper. Kerfoot is no where near as good as Hintz. Very lopsided.
