Mzarek to Edmonton for a 1st rd pick in 2022.

Two 1st rd picks in 2022 ( one acquired from Edmonton ) for Evander Kane. SJ eats half his salary.

Holl & Amirov to Chicago for Fleury, Chicago eats half his contract.

2nd rd pick in 2022 & 1st rd pick in 2023 to Columbus, to eat half of Kane & Fleury deals.

Niemela, Robertson & Kerfoot to Arizona for Chychrun.

9.3 million in outgoing salaries, with trades reducing the cap hit on Kane & Fleury reduced to a combined 3.5 million cap hit. Then add 4.6 for Chychrun = 8.1 million.

Edmonton is in dire need of a starting netminder, Mzarek also on a resonable deal so worth a 1st rd pick. Mzarek as good as it will get before the trade deadline, & a move that offers the Leafs some cap savings to use elsewhere.

Toronto in dire need of upgrading the LW position and top 4 defense.

Fleury an insurance move, in case Campbell sustains an injury.

Mrazek is no where near a 1st. He has an extra long history of being injured and has as much value as Reimer did.

Mrazek is never healthy, that's cracked.

I guess I am in the minority here, but Mrazek to the Sabres for a 1st I think is the most realistic deal there. They have 3 1sts as it is. They could make it their choice. They will get more picks as they trade off their pending UFA pieces. They need an NHL goalie and need to reach the cap floor. Losing horribly is not good for the development of their young high prospects. To me, this makes a reasonable amount of sense for both teams.

Rlf, why would a rebuilding dumpster fire trade top picks away?

25 Dec 2021 21:22:13
Hrenklin. As I said. They still have to reach the cap floor. Mrazek, even if injured can help them get there. When healthy, he offers solid NHL goaltending. If a team is going to spend on an asset while in a rebuild, a goalie is where they should spend it. The term on Mrazek is perfect for a rebuild. They can afford to move a late first. They have good prospects and lots of picks. A good UFA goalie is not likely looking to sign in Buffalo right now. At the end of his deal, they can move him and recover an asset. They can't continue to put crap alongside their good young players forever. They have some good young D and forwards. They also got Tuch in the Eichel deal. They have lots of pending UFA's, so many spots to fill next season.
