Dallas will need more scoring next season and they lack right shooting skill. Moving Khudobin and his $3.33M cap hit still leaves them about $14M to re-sign Robertson and Oettinger and fill out the roster. Holl gives them a 3rd pair RD to help with the loss of Hakanpaa.


Leafs pick up a big, physical RD for 3rd pair duty signed at $1.5M for 2 more seasons. They bring in Toronto born, right shooting, high end prospect Johnston. He could be Leafs future #2 centre or a top 6 RW. Khudobin will cost them about $2.2M to bury him in the minors or $.83M this season and $1.25M next season if they buy him out. Leafs open up a minimum $5.5M in cap space and closer to $7M this season if they buyout Khudobin. If they can then move Mrazek, they should have enough cap space to build another solid team.

It is a way, granted, to gain a little wiggle room but a very poor return on Nylander.

Wyatt Johnston has had one year of some brilliance. And yes he COULD be a #2 Center but that is several years from now.

But as we both know our window of hope is short so I say we fish somewhere else.

Maybe can get Dallas to add if it is a poor return. Maybe get Grushnikov added in? It all depends on Johnston and his growth. I realize he won't be ready for a year or two likely as an NHL centre, but with Tavares age and Matthews contract ending in two years, don't the Leafs kind of need a high end prospect down the middle?
Hard to see progression in a guy that didn't play for the year before last. 2 pts per game in the OHL as an 18 year old after not playing for a year is pretty impressive. Then had 2pts a game in the playoffs as well. Not a bad size either.
Plus, I have already put out my favourite Nylander trades more than once. lol.

I know that you’ve put out other Nylander trades! Me too but not as many.

In order to proceed we need a meeting with Dubas et al.

Let’s get the Leafs to bring in a dozen of us, all paid with plenty of extravagances, and give him some help.

We’ll even get on the phones to get the ball rolling!

So I’ve looked at three recent Nylander destinations from you: Nashville, Buffalo and LA.

I like the LA trade most followed by Nashville.

Since Nashville already owe a player TBA later (for Biega or Mendel) can we squeeze in Myers?

I still prefer your NSH trades For Nylander. Getting 2 middle to top 6 grinders Would be great imo.
