NJ is rumoured to want to improve their goaltending, so they land Gibson for McLeod, Blackwood and Okhotyuk.

Ana picks up a young goalie who has shown to be very good in the past, Nylander and Abruzzese for Gibson, Jones and Helleson.

Leafs clear almost $4.8M in cap space while picking up more speed and grit in McLeod and Jones as well as two very good D prospects in Okhotyuk(LD) and Helleson(RD).

Leafs then trade

Nash
Kerfoot $3.5M
Holl $2M

Tor
Trenin RFA
Myers $2.55M

Thrown this out before where Nash gets the speed and versatility of Kerfoot and a D in Holl who costs less then Myers that they have in the minors.
Leafs get more cap space(should be about an extra $1M after signing Trenin) and size/grit. Leafs may use Myers.

@RLF. Not that this would go through from Dallas's side . and i know Gibson is the hot name going around as goalie to replace Soup if he wants to much. but what if the leafs were to try to re-acquire their 2nd round pick from this year and offer Oettinger a contract. anything between 6mil and 8mil (rough estimates of the numbers that it would cost them a 1st,2nd and 3rd) do you think he takes it or better yer can Dallas match it. he's big. young and was great in the playoffs for the stars.

@Lox I'm thinking Dallas matches. If they dont, then it's because you're handing over a tonne of picks. You would have to offer him 8 mil on a 4 year deal or else it turns into 2 firsts or more I believe.

@Loxley. I believe Dallas has been high on Oettinger for a while. I think they would match unless the offer is really over the top. I would also be cautious to offer big money to a young goalie that looks great before he has played a couple of seasons. They usually fall back to earth some as opponents get better scouting on them. I think Dubas needs to try and find the next Campbell if he can't get Campbell to sign a reasonable deal. Whether that is Stolarz, C. Ingram etc, that may be the route Dubas has to go especially if he refuses to pull the trigger on a big move to open cap space.

@LL i am sure you are right that they match it. but according to cap friendly leafs could offer 7 years @ 7.5mil and it would only cost them a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd round pick. they'd have to get their second back from Seattle. maybe offer up Kerfoot or something.

@RLF i am sure they are. but they have some other guys to sign like Robertson. they might not be allocating 7.5mil for a goalie. i just figured if we going to pay that for an older Gibson why not try the kid. yes it would be a big risk on Dubas' part but he has to be running out of time to get this team over the top. so what does he care.
