Sorry, not even close to fitting under the cap. The Leafs would need $10.825M in cap space to do as you suggest. They have $6.44M. Over by about $4.5M. You can't have all of a players cap hit retained. Even if you got another team to retain the other 50% on Quick, you would still have a cap hit of $1.45M. Even then, you are still over by about $3M.

Also 5 of my depth signed players would not be in the lineup or playing for marlies, so not counting against the cap at the time. I actually easily come in under the cap.

Guys like Kase aren't going to sign so you can put them in the minors. Knies doesn't have a contract, so that would have to be added, although he says he is going back to school anyway. You've got 3 guys signing "discount" deals, which rarely happens.

Plus, Dubas doesn't have to figure out your proposal. You do:)
