Exactly Tagz. We get a cheap, solid goalie for a tandem. Comtois has pushed close to 20 before and may do so again with JT. The Leafs could replace Nylander's 34 with 20 and still would have been top 5 in goals last season.
You use the $4M in cap space to sign guys or use it and the assets acquired to get someone via trade.

I like it. I expect Murray to be injured fairly often so a solid backup is needed.

@LL/ Tagz. Unless people are seriously still overvaluing Nylander, this makes a ton of sense for the Leafs.

Follow it up with Sandin for Necas and then go to NJ and see if we can get McLeod and Okhotiuk for Kerfoot (small + (Holl? ) ) . Leafs would have about $12M to spend. Necas and Comtois with Tavares. McLeod is the new 3C, moving Kampf either to wing or 4C. Still room to sign Sanford and re-sign Engvall to fill out the 3rd line with McLeod. Necas should get around $2.5M on a bridge. 4th line anchoured by Kampf and there should be plenty of cap space to fill any spots necessary.

Haven't we had enough failures with the same group to hang on to guys like Willy that don't often show up come playoff time?

@RLF we aren't hanging onto the same group. We're looking at significant downgrades in net and up front lol.

I like all of those moves. Kampf would be a great 4C. He can kill every penalty as he only gets 8 mins of 5v5 per game.

@RLF I'm really not sure what he's doing tbh. I think he just backed himself into a corner here.

Clearly running with what we see right now is scary, but he might do something tomorrow. Matt Murray being hurt constantly is my biggest concern.

@LL. Can you imagine what Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly etc are thinking? Players talk, they will know what Jack was willing to except. If it was something like 4X$5.25M, got to think the players are thinking what the hockey puck is Dubas doing.

As for Nylander, I honestly think he might welcome a trade to somewhere new.

I don't think Nylander cares in the slightest where he plays. Strikes me as someone that just wants the most money possible.

The players seemed to like Soup, everyone did. I'm sure they are confused by losing Soup for the same as Murray cost.

Why is nobody mentioning this, Ottawa was willing to give up 7th for 16th in order to dump Murray. Instead they gave up a 3rd and 7th. Those are not the same value. Dubas got taken.

@LL. All true. I think Dubas really wanted Murray and probably feels he got a good deal. Dubas has a very different way of looking at things then any team that has won a Cup.

I'm pretty sure we all agree that Dubas got rinsed in the Murray deal. At the very very minimum 37.5% retention with no 3rd team (split the difference from 25 to 50). I was so disappointed with these negotiations especially since we clearly had the upper hand.
Anyways, its done and we have to hope for the best with Murray.
I'm happy in picking up Samsonov at $1.8M/ year who will be a cost controlled RFA next year. Something positive in my eyes even though he didn't have the best season last couple of years but young and still potential upside.

@Tagz I have no issue with the Samsonov signing either, but compared to Mrazek my cat on skates is a good backup lol.

@RLF very true. The trades he makes sometimes are just astonishing.

Murray he got taken, Kadri he got taken, Marchment he got taken -no way of know Mason would be this good, but we Did know malgin was a joke-.
