To Toronto
Matt Boldy $880K RFA next year
2023 4th round pick

To Minnesota
Sandin RFA
Kerfoot $3.5M × 1yr

Minnesota has 2 high end forward prospects in Rossi & Ohgren, so I think they can afford to trade Boldy to pick up a potential top 4 LHD in Sandin. Minnesota's top 2 defense prospects are both RHD. Also they would acquire a speedy winger/centerman who can PK and fits their system well.

Toronto picks up a big, young LW with lots of potential to play with JT and Nylander.
The 4th round pick can be removed if need be to make trade work.

I’d do the trade and agree with 2nd line LW.
Also agree the Wild need an LD so it’s doable, I think.

Wild just off loaded $2.25 million from their cap in the Kulikov trade.
Still not sure they have the cap space to take on Kerfoot’s $3.5 on top of the $2 million or so it will take to sign Sandin.
That said Matt Boldy would be a better prospect on Tavares’ LW than Nick Robertson in my opinion.
This trade should have been done prior to the Wild’s trade with Anaheim leveling out the cap hits and landing Kulikov on Leafs defense to replace Sandin.

As I have said before, the Wild have $15M in dead cap space the following two seasons, even more than this season. They have Dumba to re-sign and some RFA's. They need cheap ELC players the next couple of seasons imo. Boldy only spent 10 games in the A and was a ppg player. 39 in 47 games with the Wild as a 20 year old rookie. He did this with basically 3rd line minutes and some PP time. I doubt he goes anywhere. If he did, I think you can remove the pick from the Wild and the Leafs are adding to what is proposed and I would think the add is pretty significant. Boldy looks like a 1st line winger prospect in his development so far and the Wild need cheaper talent for a bit. Next off-season when he is an RFA might be the best time to take a shot at acquiring him if he has another very good season and wants to be paid in the $4-$5M range, which would be hard for the wild to afford.

@waterbuffalo49 Minnesota has $5.73M in cap space with a 20 man roster according to cap friendly. The cap wouldn't be an issue, plus Kerfoot would only be on their books for 1 season at $3.5M cap hit.
I just think this trade would benefit both teams, especially Minnesota with all the young D prospects they have in their pipeline. They could potentially have a top 4 core of 22 years and younger for many years to come with the addition of Sandin.

@RLF Sandin would be a cheaper contract they could have for a couple of years when the $15M dead cap space comes into play and Kerfoot would be gone next year.
I guess we can remove the fourth and add one from our end (whether a 2nd or 3rd), but Boldy is definitely a target I would pursue if possible.
