What about Sandin for Veleno straight up?

Seems like a deal that benefits both teams. Detroit could use a young NHL ready LD like Sandin and have the cap space to sign him. Veleno is a left shooting C/W who has decent size, skates well, defensively responsible and a fairly physical player. Veleno was a point producer at lower levels and has a strong work ethic. He is safe with the puck and is at $.895M and waiver exempt. They two were even picked in the same draft 1 spot apart

Thoughts?

I originally wanted Toronto to take Veleno, but I also thought he would be a more influential pro. Still time I suppose though.

This was the type of trade I was thinking about for sandin Toronto gets a good prospect that maybe a year or two away idk if veleno is the guy the leafs would want but I like the logic behind the trade.

Playing defense in the NHL is far more difficult than being a 2nd or 3rd line winger.
Sandin has already proven he can play in the NHL
Veleno has not!

Sandin has 17 more NHL games than Veleno. Veleno has been given a 3rd line shutdown role. I agree playing D can be more difficult. If Sandin isn't going to sign, i would rather the Leafs get back a player that might be ready for a breakout season on the cheap. Just my opinion.
