If muzzin is done for the season, what are thoughts on trying for Karlsson @ 50%.

Tor: sandin, Robertson, Artur Akhtyamov, 2024 2nd (conditional leafs make finals becomes 1st) and maybe see if they want simmonds to get some ice time.

There are some concerns with Karlssons health, a. d the 5 years remaining. But if the salary cap keeps going up there's a good chance it can look like a steal of a contract @50%.

getting Karlsson is an interesting idea. but i think the guy the Leafs should really target if Carson Soucy from Seattle to replace Muzzin on LD so they can move Sandin down to 3rd pairing. and then still have some of Muzz's cap space for a D than can play the RD position.

My idea also brings phase 2 which could be dumba to upgrade holl.

I think the asking price for Dumba wouldn't be worth it. He's not the player he used to be and isn't great defensively, in my opinion atleast.

So how about this:

Kerfoot and a 2nd or 3rd pick for Soucy

Then we send Marner, Niemela and 2 1st round picks (2024 & 2025) to Sharks for Meier and Karlsson (50% retension) or something like that. we can resign Meier for Marner money and Karlsson replaces Muzzin whose career might be done and gives us a D that looks like this:

Rielly. Karlsson
Soucy. Brodie
Sandin. Liljegren
Giordano

if Muzz is done and Murray comes back still have 2.5mil in cap.

I wouldn’t want karlsson I don’t think he’s that good anymore, if I’m the leafs I’m looking for hard to play against, fast transitioning defencemen. Get the puck to the forwards let them do there thing make opposing wingers lives a living hell.

Karlsson gets injured and misses substantial time each year.
When he is playing his offense is great but even when healthy he is defensively challenged just like Morgan Reilly.
Timo Meier and James Reimer are the two players to target on the San Jose Sharks.

Leafs are not touching karlsson even at 50% still 5years left on that deal.
