Larkin & Bertuzzi to Toronto for Robertson, Niemela, Hirvonen, Kerfoot, Holl, Knies & a 1st rd & 3rd rd pick in 2023 & 2024. With Detroit eating half of Larkin & Bertuzzi contracts to facilitate the trade, Leafs would be adding to the cap after the trade, approx.
400 000 covered by the LTIR $ on Muzzin.

So you trade all that of a package and the players returning are on your 3rd line? That's way too much if you only value them as 3rd liners.

For a legitimate run at a Cup, yes all day long you do a trade to bring in a Larkin & Bertuzzi or a Debrincat & Giroux. Is Taylor Hall in Boston a 3rd line player, maybe on a Championship team along with Coyle & Frederic have combined for 69 points. Leafs current 3rd line of Aston-Reese, Kampf & Engvall have a combined 35 points this season. Leafs 3rd line would be a decent 4th line, on a Championship calibre team. Leafs may not have the assembled talent they now have now, for another 20 years & to squander the opportunity is unforgiveable. Yes the Foligno signing at the time did not work out, get over it & assemble a pkg. to take this team to glory. Leafs are two players away on the 3rd line, from being a Championship calibre team. Noteworthy Crosby played on the 3rd line on the Olympic team, there is no I in team & no rules against players with a skillset to play a top 6 role, playing on an offensively formidable 3rd line like Boston has. Secondary scoring as good as it gets in Boston, in Toronto somewhat but not so much. Leafs do not have a high powered offensive defense core, so secondary scoring on that 3rd line is vital & has an even bigger impact to the teams success or lack there of.

Toews & P. Kane

Henrique & R. Strome

Debrincat & Giroux

Horvat & Kuzmenko or Boeser ( preferably Kuzmenko )

Larkin & Bertuzzi

Barzal & Nelson

B. Schenn & Tarasenko

Leafs need a dynamic duo on the 3rd line all 7 combos listed can produce offensively, or fill in no problem at all in a top 6 roll if there are injuries.

* To create the Kawhi effect so to speak, of course different sports & as such in hockey it would take two players minimum to have the same effect.

Leafs have dwelled in futility for over half a century, damn the torpedos & rather than supposedly compete for the Cup create a Cup favorite team. Yes the price will be steep & a bit painful at first, but well worth the price if done correctly.

@Kennedy

We all have our opinions, that’s obvious.

Your analysis is spot-on, the Leafs need a much stronger bottom6.

I just can’t accept for a minute that the Leafs need to empty the cupboards.

Larkin is a good player I agree but your proposals ALWAYS include 50% retention and multiple trades.

This is not going to happen.

Again in my view your trades are ‘way-out-there’ and simply won’t happen.

yzerman doesn’t do that… he’s smart. Not like dubas he’s failed this organization and we will be in a rebuild in the next 2-3 years.
